  3. Most of the early cars have a narrow spring so the later type blocks won't work, but Sid at www.droppedaxles.com has the narrow one as does nightprowlers? I belive they 1 3/4 wide. Check your spring width to be sure.

I do not recommend using those extruded aluminum blocks you can buy in a kit from the local FLAPS. The alum will not survive and will fail at the worse possible time. I ran a set on my 54 until I noticed fractures. I then fabbed up a set of steel block using rectangular tubing. Steel blocks or solid aluminum are the best option.

I did the same. Went to the local metal yard and found a remnant of steel 2x4 for about $6. It was just big enough for 2 blocks so I cut it in half, drilled some holes and added a grade 8 allen head bolt for the pin. It was thick walled tubing so I didn't even have to box it. Having new u-bolts bent wasn't so cheap though.

I used a set of these. The previous builder had set the rear end in my pickup 1/2" to far forward. With these I could turn the bolt and move the center line any where I wanted and square it up to the frame. I believe they are a roundy round item.
