Does any body know if a 350 will bolt up to '64 cadillac 429 mounts?. I didn't want to do it but parts and gas an this big bastard are breaking my wallet
No, and no. you'd be better to get a overdrive for a BOP pattern car, a 200-r4 should be easy to find. I picked up a cheap 4 banger truck for a daily. 25 mpg and $1000 later.
Damn that's sucks. A friend of mine said it might. I bought this as a running car to cruse wile I'm working on my other project. Wasn't ready for another one
think how hard 350 ci has to work to haul 5000 lbs of detroit steel, vs a torquey 429 ci. There is a reason Caddy put big motors in before everyone else. An overdrive will pay for itself if you can gear it to drive at max vacuum at part throttle, but that costs alot of gas money up front.
That'll get you nothing. It's already running on the primary barrels of an AFB, which are probably smaller than the barrels of the two barrel would be. Just remove the secondary throttle linkage if you can't trust yourself to keep your foot out of them.
Yep, a properly tuned 4 barrel will get just as good of mileage as a 2 barrel. Sometimes better if you can keep your foot under control.
If you intend to keep driving the car then you need the low speed torque that the Cad has and the shiverlay does not.... Do a proper tune-up and drive like grand dad. .
Just to back these guys up, I had a 350 powered '73 Bel Air forever. On the Rochester 2bbl it would get 14.5 on the highway. Swapped intakes (stock iron 2bbl for stock iron 4bbl) and threw on a 600 CFM Holley 4160, and an HEI dizzy, and mileage went up to 17 on the highway!
A Q jet will do better than a 2 barrel carb. The primary's are smaller and set up right will give good gas mileage. I have set them up on 472 Cadillac's to get 20 - 21 mpg on the highway and 16 city which is not bad given the size car.
I'd be looking at the tune-up REAL Careful. I bet the advance isn't optimized? Check and recuve the dizzy and run as much advance as you can. Wonder how beat the timing chain is? What's the compression like? Run thinner oils in all including the rear end. Get some P Metric tires and run them at 36 PSI or better. Get a 200R4 in nice shape and use that overdrive. Get a vacuum gage and drive with it.
