any one know what fron end parts will interchange with the 1964 chevy truck. I want to change it to 5 lug with disk brakes is there anything that will bolt on from a wrecking yard.

78 thru 83 chevy van is also another avenue.
I'm sticking with my torsion setup and changing out the spindle using a CPP kit.
You might want to check them out.

71-72 are closest, 73-87 (73-91 suburbans) will also work. Steering box mount is different if you want PS, you have to change ball joints and steering linkage, etc.

62 was last year of torsion bars

I have a 65 C20. I used lower control arms off of a 69c10 and put 84c10 ball joints, spendles, linkage, brakes. Used a master cylender and break booster from cpp. Then installed a 65 c10 rear end and got the 5 lug conversion from cpp.

If I could go back I would make it 6 lug.

  6. Where are you located? I have the entire front clip from a 73-82 Chevy pickup sitting beside the shop. If you are in driving distance of SE Oklahoma City you can have it for the cost to come pick it up. The guy I got it from cut the truck up to make a pickup bed trailer. I have the front frame section from the firewall forward.

I'm doing the same swap. Squirrel's right, of course. 72 and earlier rear axles are closest widthwise, and bolt up. Newer 5bolt axles are a little wider, and you need to change the mounts.
For the wrecking yard approach to the front end , you need 73-87 lower A arms, (so the newer balljoints fit), 73-87 upper balljoints which will bolt in to the stock uppers (or use the 73-87 upper A arms too.) Then the 73-87 spindles, discs and calipers.
Find the heavy duty 1 1/4 inch rotors if you can, because all the aftermarket dropped spindles use those. All this assumes you want power brakes and power steering as well, because the steering linkage is taken fro the 73-87 too. Simplest approach is to unbolt the entire 73-87 crossmember and bolt it back up (Yes it fits) to your 64. Take the steering box and linkage as well, and buy a PS adapter from Captainfab on the 60-66 board the following links are from.

If you're fine with manual steering (but why, at this point?) there are adaptors you can buy to connect the new tie rod ends to the 64 linkage.

    Too much information?

  9. That's what I did to convert a 1972 K5 4X4 Blazer to 2WD. (Your 64 has the same frame dimensions) Had to drill a few holes but it was an easy install.

Look at the CPP website. I bought the 61 Chevy kit from them and it worked out great. Not a lot of coin for new products.

For his truck, there is no real reason to buy an aftermarket kit. He can convert his 64 to later model stuff without buying anything aftermarket. Your 61 with the torsion bars, now that's a different story. I could understand going aftermarket in that case.

I used everything off the donor on my last truck. Even the brake hard lines and brake hoses bolted right in. The holes are even already in the frame for them.
