I just bought an Auburn posi unit with the spacer for my 10 bolt chevy rear ( out of a 84 Monte Carlo )Is it safe to say that I can swap the old carrier out for the new one without having to reshim and set the gear spacing. I figure if I don't change the ratio it should be a bolt-in.

It's safe to say that you will still have to re-set the lateral adjustment, and therefore you will have to paint the gear teeth up and check the mesh again.

And Willowbilly...It ain't a monster motor so I don't need a monster rear and when I'm done I'll have less than $250.00 in the whole deal and a rear end that will last me many miles. [IMG]

Yeah, you've gotta re-set the rear end. The machining on the new case might not match, exactly, the machining on the old carrier. All it has to be off is a few thousandths.
