Hotwheels are Kool but if you think about it ....if they cost a Dollar and some tax at the store and thats if you are not buying a rare one at the antique store for a whole lot more that a dollar. You collect 5000. Thats 5 Large + you dumped on hotwheels...thats the cost a supercharger set-up or a a 50s driver...just saying.

    Timmy Z - you made a point.
I collected hot wheels all my life, also as a teenager I build lots of model cars. It costs too much money and it takes alot of space.
So everytime I see some cool model cars or hot wheels - I tell myself to walk by and save my money for oil, gaskets, tools.
but still, once a month or so is ok;)

I'm guessing that a man that can afford 5000 Hotwheels would have no problem affording a supercharger or a 50s driver also. ;)

I just sent off a box to cruisin 32's little 7 year old grandson i've been seeing a lot more hot rod styled ones once again. very cool. some were collectors, not super rare, but if he opens em he does, at least they will get played with.:D , kid is having a bad enough holiday. :( I remember people bringing me some when i was a kid and frequently hospitalized, they are just perfect for running around on those tables that fit over the beds.

That's exactly why I stopped collecting and sold off most of my collection. I made the mistake of sitting down and totalling up the amount I'd spent over a couple of years. After factoring in the expensive redlines, it was staggering!

Witha baby on the way I finally had to move the bar room to make room for a play room. So the bar room got mooved to the smallest spare room and I decided to put all mine that are in boxes up- only a couple hundred right now. But I have a few hundred for playing with.

I love finding the mis-packaged ones- I have a Civic that is in a Hummer H3 box- and I have a few T-hunts.

I have one that looks just like the one on the right on my shelf too! great minds think alike.

The green A sedan in the middle of the first pic - who makes that one?? I do not recall having seen it before. looks like a good start to a custom build or two :)

  18. Yeah, but you can't usually pay off a supercharger at 25 bucks or so a week over the course of four years, unless you buy it with a credit card. (25 cars a week for four years gives you 5200 hot wheels).

For many of us, Hot Wheels are the only way we are able to own so many of the great automobiles, racers, and hot rods. I've been buying them since they came out in the 70's.

Hell yeah. I'm guilty. There are a couple of thousand lining the walls of the garage.

The hot wheels 100% series from the last few years are pretty cool too. usually 10-15 bucks each, they are not the cheapest but the detail is really good. here is the orange crate. this is the same size as a regular hot wheels just much better detailed.

Hot wheels also did a detailed lil coffin, a manta ray, the beatnic bandit, the mysterion, the outlaw, the deora, the SW&C willys (blue & black), the so cal belly tank and the mooneyham & sharp coupe just to name a few. all done in high detail with separate engines & detailed interiors.

    I also like the 49 & 51 merc's. I have a bunch of them.

Don't just limit yourself to hot wheels either. Jada makes some pretty good ones, johnny lightning has some good castings (although usually out of scale) and revel monogram even has a few. Here is a pic with a bunch of the revell monogram cars in it. pretty well detailed for only being a little over an inch long! if anybody wants to see closeups of any of these just ask, I will see what I can do.

I can still remember opening packages from '68-'70.
Hot wheels cars have been a part of my life for over four decades!

Raised on gas and oil, these little homages to speed are like no other.

^^ That SW&C Willys in the best. I saw one at a show and it was really expensive. Then there was what appeared to be the same car but black with flames for alot less cash. Needless to say I have the flamed one.

do you have any clue how rare that one is? it was only givin to hotwheels club members back in 1974 i thin. I had over 10,000 in mint packages i traded them all when i was 16 for a jeep that my mom wrecked a wee before I got my license I lost out on that stuff.

If you have a '66 GTO (or around that time, or Pontiacs in general), a '33 Ford pickup or a '29 Model A perhaps.

Anyway, I have been collecting these for a bit but I limit myself a lot, I only have like 30. I mainly like to spring for the Classics with the diecast undercarriages and all that, it seems Hot Wheels might have went to plastic undercarriages on their newer regular cars. When I had these as a kid they were still diecast and that was in the 90s. I usually try to get all different colors, it seems that people know rare colors or options such as rims. I like to find misprints and miscarded cars as well, I found a Ferrari in the wrong package as well as some "Caamaros".
I mainly like to collect cars I like, mostly Pontiacs. I also got some sweet Johnny Lightning cars, two versions of those "Reel rides" from Smokey and the Bandit (I seem to collect a lot of S&B stuff) and a 1:18 scale '66 GTO Tiger autographed by Jim Wangers scored off eBay.

I remember having the Hot Wheels snake funny car and lots of redline wheels cars. Wish I had them now. My 10 yr old son loves hot wheels. They sell them at the grocery store we go to, most of the time we pick up one when we get groceries. He always looks for hot rods, customs or 70's cars. He's not interested in the "tuner" or sports cars...guess I'm teaching him well...

I know I know, its a Matchbox car, still cool though. I found it while going through some old boxes in the garage a few weeks ago.
