and it probably won't be done for 10 years, but oh well should be a fun project and i'll still only be just over 30 [IMG]
Current plans are a highboy, chopped, channeled, Z'd. Nice Shiney paint, probably just a 350/350 thats in my garage till I get up the $$ to slap in a 354.
Got some body work to do some asshole tried cutting the roof off which is totally gay, right a the bodyline too, dispite this the body held its shape pretty good since the doors open and close pretty well. Shouldn't be too bad to hammer that out and weld it back together.
Anyway some cool tidbits about her is that its got the original motor and tranny, starter, exhaust, shifter, etc connected to it which is cool, any ideas on what there worth? Also has the window roller uppers for and stuff for front and rear. Has hood and side panels. Most of that stuff I'll probaby sell to fund the project.
The frames straight and looks good. We'll see when I take the body off.
Should be a good learning experience, I'm off on the net in search of the how to build a trad A book.
oh yeah got it for $400 Canadian, supposed to be $300 but I think his bud told him it was worth more, oh well not too bad I hope.
anyone have a shit body that doesn't need the bottoms of the quarter windows?
just can't go to the store to buy this patina [IMG]
    original exhaust, weird eh?
theres a stock headlight back there too
    [IMG]
stock steering column moves freely, theres a starter there too
    [IMG]
you can see the stock manifold here, has carb too
    [IMG]
Let me know what you think? Too much project for a beginner lol.
Also you will notice the pics are stored offsite so all my pics aren't taking up bandwidth [IMG]

Congrats, just take one step at a time. I am building my first early hot rod (updates later tonight). suggest figuring out what you have and sell the other stuff (if you are not sure what to keep, then keep the part). start with the frame and work up... but make sure you have fun.

it'll give something to practice your welding skills,to bad they hacked the roof. You could build a tub by hacking it the rest of the way off.

I like having a roof, so I think I should be able to fix that part. Not in a rush to get it done just slowly and steadily. I think I'm just keeping the frame and body, the rest can go to someone else.
Any idea on what the motor and tranny would be worth it I tried selling it? My goal is probably to sell everything I need, enough to pay for the car then I'm starting with a free frame and body basically.
Best part is that his buddy is bring it to my garage for a mere $20, not like hes that far away but its pretty cool still.

I just ordered that book by Mike Bishop about 2hrs ago [IMG]
I'm in Swift Current, actually just outside in Waldeck. Theres one guy here that builds really, really impressive rods in my little town. Gonna try and hang around him and maybe have some rod carma rub off. Hes building a handmade extend cab truck with a 28 cowl and rear windows. The rest is handbuilt, frame, steering column, you name it he built it. $800 into the whole thing and its a complete body, frame, axles, etc. Was going to put a stroked flat head in there but a guy bought it and wanted a 383 sbc.
Thanks for the welcome into the club, can I get a sticker [IMG]

  8. The 28 will make a nice car,,,,you don't have a lotta money invested but you will have a lotta time,,,,,

Good luck and like Boones said,,,HAVE FUN! HRP

  9. looks like a great project. I guess I can welcome you to the HamB A sedan builders club too, so welcome to the H.A.S.B.C.!

Find a model A restorer in your area and ask him what hill give you for the banger stuff - I sold my stuff for a pretty nice sum.

keep us posted on it. You can surely get her going quicker than 10 years since you're so young.

is it Canadian to go highboy, chopped, and channeled???

Thanks for the HASBC welcome [IMG]
Maybe sooner than 10 years but who knows. Plan on spending no money and lots of time on it. No rushing or jumping into anything.
This area isn't a big rod or restorer place. Not enough money I guess. I'll hold onto my junk till I find someone who wants that stuff. Maybe I'll try the swapmeet thing.

Talk to ya later.

  12. Fry, good to see you got a project. I may come up with a body for parts, keep in touch. I posted a pic of Brian's pickup on the hamb a couple of weeks ago. He builds nice stuff. If you stop in tell him Pat from MooseJaw says hi. I was up there a month ago and picked up a 26-7 roadster pickup Brian located for me. Nutz.

I got the sedan from the guy how told brian about it. The same guy just sold him a A sedan body for $150 [IMG]
I was hoping to get the same kind of deal but some guys told him he was selling way too low.
He does build pretty amazing stuff, I was blown away when I drove past his house and seen his garage door open with this beautiful rod sitting there.
Spedley I live down a little street called braun. I'm the house just across the park. Stop in anytime. [IMG]

    hopefully.

Pat let me know what you'd want for those repair piece. Probably just want below the rear side windows, the bolt in piece. I'm going to try and hammer the back out.
See any pieces you'd like to trade me for, for those pieces? Probably not but worth a try [IMG]
    Thanks

When that book arrives, read it cover to cover. Then take it to bed with you and "soak up" as much as you can. It's often refered to as the "BIBLE of ROD BUILDING!"

Small world, my uncle lived in Waldeck! (many years ago) Still have relatives in "Fast Running Waters!" I came from "Pile o Bones" originally.

Hey Dave, maybe we SHOULD make a list of Western Canadian "A" Tudor builders.

That way we can keep in touch; and swap lies!!

a list would be cool, not that I'd know who anyone is but still would be cool.
Thanks for the offer on tech questions. I'm sure I'll have lots, the book will probably answer most.
This is my kinda idea of who it'll go.
Pretty cruddy edit but oh well.
Got it in her new home today, the guy who delivered it for me is building a 32 coupe, for some reason he sold a mint steel body to go fiberglass [IMG]
Said hes going to be running a bbc with a blower I believe.
My old lady is really getting excited about the project too, she was actually looking up trad rods on the net by herself yesterday [IMG]
Also the tranny still shifts between gears, thats pretty cool.

Looks like a great start, why don't you run the banger motor for now? It would be a fun car...
The cool thing about the Book is how close to stock a really nice A bone hot rod is...
    Have fun

Fry, I hope your not over 4 foot 9 inches tall.
If you are, your never going to be able to see traffic lights!

Nice concept, but IMHO a bit TOO radical. Plus you will need to make a LOT of body modifications! (more time)

    lol
A bit radical I know. I put a bit of a mock up seat in there yesterday when it got delivered. I have quite a bit of room.
I'm thinking more of a moderate chop and channeled the width of the frame.
I haven't seen very many A sedans in my short rodding history that have been Rodded, to really tell what looks porpotionally appealing. I do have tons of pics but that doesn't help the "real life" look when your standing next to it.
Diggerdave I do appreciate your input, I know your highly respected on here as well as CanadianRodder, so any advice or tips I'm very eager to hear.
I have a minitruckin background so thats where my love of what I think is refered to has the "death rod". I'm trying to not let that influence my direction with this car, but it shows through obviously.
Regarding the 4cyl, the thought had crossed my mind since I already have the motor. It would be impressive with vintage speed parts but it seems like more of a lifelong project than a short term like the 350. Since it is already sitting there, its a 4 bolt block with 194 heads it should be an easy build. If I start getting to complicated right off the bat them I think the whole project would become overwhelming.
I have always loved the hemi motors and it would be right at home between the rails and is something I think I'll gather parts for and build after the car is built and running.
Anyway thanks for all the comments and input.

You may have already mentioned this, but i'm too lazy to go back and read all these post [IMG]......what's up with the sedan in the background in pic 1. Tree fall on it?

One thing about your project....TAKE PLENTY OF PICTURES. We likes to see pictures! [IMG]

    Great find!

I would absolutely love more pics of your sedan! I believe I have a few but NEED more lol.
Thats a 36 Ford I think. The pics were takin at the dude house who I bought it from. Its got the flat back instead of the humpback so its kinda rare. The rear was in perfect shape so the dude snapped it up and was selling it to a friend with a humpback car. He also had a 32 ford coupe sitting there with the top cut off. Way to big of a project for me and I suck a wood work.
