I'm interested in seeing pics of white roof inserts on model a coupes. Were these common back in the late50's/early 60's? I seem to only see black, thanks in advance.
My Model A had a white naughahyde top insert when I bought it as a sort of stock, full fendered car. That top insert was installed in the early seventies, and was plain white. I left it in place as I chopped the top and changed the car to a hot rod. I've attached a picture of it as it looked last year. Since then, I pulled the old naughahyde insert out (it was nearly 40 years old), and installed an aluminum top insert, made on an English wheel. The aluminum will get covered with military canvas. You should be able to find a picture of Mike Smith's (California Hot Rods) 30 Model A coupe with a white tuck 'n roll top that was recently installed. Looks great! Craig
When I read the title I thought to myself that would look like ___. Craig Owens' coupe looks sweeeet. Nice work.
Old hot rod mags are filled with cars with white or other color top inserts than black. Runningboard covers too! UGH.
Thanks for the photos, I agree a white insert would be a bear to keep clean but they do look nice!!!!
Can't post apicture. My 32 5w has an off white insert. I used vinyl top material. It was easy to streth and has been no problem to keep clean. (wish we had spell check)
They were very popular back in early 60's.Most of the coupes in Hot Rod Magazine had white inserts.A lot of them had matching white running board covers and spare tire covers.Try to keep a white running board clean!
White looks right, especially with white walls and/or a white firewall. Here's mine. Top was done by a previous owner in 1971. It still looks good. It's not hard to keep it clean, it doesn't get that dirty up there.
