Hide Your Hump

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bib Overalls, Dec 18, 2009.

  1. I am building a 31 Model A coupe on a pinched 32 frame. To make the adaptation in the trunk area I purchased one of Vaphead's (Riley Automotive) new rear sub-rail kits.

The kit is configured for a frame with a flat rear cross member. I bought it knowing I would have to make some modifications to work with my arched Model A cross member.

Vaphead made some suggestions and I got to work making luan plywood and card board templates. When I was satisfied I transferred the design to 16 gauge sheet steel. My friend Barry Miles did the bending and TIG welding.

    I'm pleased with the result.

Very clean solution to a problem. If the rest of this build is as sanitary you'll have one fine hot rod.

Nice. A giant version of the stock Ford tudor/Fordor hump found under the back seats.

In a stock Coupe/Cabriolet/Roadster the trunk floor is raised to clear the crossmember, called the trunk floor/rumble seat riser.
