I just finished up the front end on my '32 3W coupe, I am using an old chrome Mor drop axle, split '40 bones, and '40 brakes. Eric at Riley Auto provided the missing spindels, perch pins , front spring/ shackles and drop arms to make it all come together.

I also chopped the windshield frame ( not welded yet) and bobbed the rear frame horns

I have the car bascially mocked up on how it will sit, maybe a little higher in the rear with a taller tire, I am thinking Hurst pie crust cheater slick.

I appreciate any feedback on the stance.

  2. Feedback? Looks mighty fine to me. What will you be doing for steering?

you got a good start. mine will have about the same stance you are looking for. I am using 32.5" tires in the back and 28.3" in the front

I have a nice F-1 box/column to use, but I need to drill the hole in frame eventually.

it looks like the fenders are molded?? if so that is a bummer,...they just seem a little to beat up to keep em and Imo to ugly to run.

The cheaters are going to take it to the right place, but even then those fenders are to high up on the quarters????

If you pull the front spring down to only the main leaf, you'll have a better idea of the frame at ride height with with engine weight etc.
It also gives you a better idea of the "stance" you're going to have if those are the same height tires you'll be using.
In the rear throw a couple of sacks of cement in the trunk for a load stance.

Don't worry about those nasty rear fenders, you'll either tire of them and "unweld" them or trim them nicely and run'em. Either way will work just fine.

How stout are those radius rod brackets at the frame? Do you have the tapered buttons behind them?

One more thing, a proper stance picture is taken from the side from about 30 ft away. Then one head-on front and dead-on rear. Artsy techniques from quarter and so on don't show the stance in it's raw form.

I think it is looking great... only thing wrong with it is that it is not in my garage.......

  13. I am a fan of bobbed fenders, but would not want it to sit any higher.

    see,one thing leads to another.
Leave it channeled ! keep the fenders down near the tires.

    glad you're working on it.

The back of the car looks like it could come down a tad and the radius of the fenders look too tight for the diameter of the tires. Nothing that can't be corrected with a little time and work.

Personally, I think it is a crime to channel over '32 rails. The side reveal is beautiful and should be shown.

Time to update your Avatar with the 3W!

I like it channeled. How long ago do think it was done? 60 years ago? (1950)
And the fact it is not a deep channel and you can still see the frame reveal.

The front end looks great too by the way.
(hated the old axle you had)

cash in the 401K and lets all drive to Austin !

  30. SoCal Tex used to be a VW guy, too, I think he still has my old Hurst shifter in his 61 sunroof, street driven 12 second car.... remember that night at Qualcomm Stadium, Doug?
Looks like your garage is a *tiny* bit bigger than the one you had in Santee, buddy...looking good on the Deuce...
