It sounds like the 56 Caddy rims may work. I am going tomorrow to check them out. the drums are 12 inches in diameter. so maybe, problem solved.

The 56 rims had the same problem didnt clear the drum. But at Dans cl***ic car parts emporium had a great selection of other rims to try. We found some Buick wildcats rims that will work . They were already mounted with some VERY aged tires dont know that I would want to move the car with them.:D the p***enger side looks good so far and in the morning I am going to try drivers side. so I think progress is moving forward.

A GREAT BIG THANKS TO CLUTCHDUMPING DAN .

Was your problem with the backspacing?
    Widcat rims have I believe a 4-4 1/2" Backspacing.

Well Santa got to go get the driveshaft today . Jamies Driveshaft did a beautiful on it I will post some pics tomorrow after the weather clears up. I have also been playing with different size tires for the rear. I dont think the bias plys are gonna last very long. a 235/75 15 fits in there nicely and a flat 255/70 15 fits also. the rim didnt have an airvalve in it I will be adding one this next week. I found that diamond back makes some larger tires in whitewall that would look pretty nice on the caddy . shes gotta have www.

I must have been a pretty good boy this year. my mufflers came in. the driveshaft has been made . went I put it in the shaft was to long. the yolk was out of a 700r4 ****** so we had to shorten it up by an inch now. In Sept got a new little gearhead had a house full of girls the youngest is a gearhead already. now I get to play with all the cool new toys for boys .To top it all off I am picking up a new project once the snow clears up . 1963 catalina 4 door I know you are suppose to finish one before starting another but it was a killer deal and a really nice car

Just went through your thread looks good! Looks like you used the same top alternator mount as me and also had problems with the pullies lining up. I built a spacer to go in between the bracket and the block.

I have started to work on the Caddy. I finally got the timing figured out. when the vacuum advance was hooked up it would go to 35 degrees at idle and at 3000 rpm it was at 50 . I changed the vac advance and weights and springs from Mr Gasket. the vac advance is backed all the way out and finally moved the vac source from drivers side port which was reading manifold pressure to the p***enger side which wasnt so severe on the edelbrock carb. now at idle with the advance hooked up it reads 10 degrees and at 3000 rpm its at a nice 30 degrees total timing. the motor fires right up even when shes cold.

The driveshaft is installed for good . I need to add a 6 degree shim to get the differential in the correct position. I am also going to get some rear brake line so she can stop.

dont know if the Caddys gonna make it but I will. I will keep plugging along. I got to go out at least once or 3 times a day to hear the motor run. I wish I could leave the headers open.

Sorry no pic today . started to rain when I was able to take her out went the kids got home from school. pm me and i can send you video from my phone. It drives and shifts great . no shakes or rattles. RIDES LIKE A CADILLAC except sounds like an angry ******* with the open headers. I will get up some pics and video later this week once the weather is nicer. My youngest was ready for me to take her to school today but was estatic when I picked her up from the bus. We then went to the local market to get a snack with her sisters. Its great living where the neighbors dont get mad if you have a loud car. I am still smiling to actually drive her on the road. I dont know what kind of mileage Im going to be getting these first drives the 4 barrel works really nice. :)

Now that I have been able to drive it alittle bit, I need to adjust the shift linkage and found out that the clutch fan isnt working spins easy so I will have to replace it and the fitting on the gas tank is seeping so I am going to have another tank made up.also need to go over the car again tighting everything up. also going to add alittle more timing in her.
