I have a 62 Galaxie I am building. It will be a daily driver and I am looking for ideas. I am definitely going to lower it, but that is all I know for now. It will have a 390 and a Tremec 3550. I know I want it some shade of blue, but I don't know which shade. I can't decide on wheels either. I want it to have that retro look, but I have added some modern conveniences(alternator, electronic ignition, power disk brakes). What would you do if it were yours? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3091676
I love 62 galaxies. I had one. One of the favorite mods I made was to have a custom tube grille made eliminating the inside headlights. Wheels- Can't go wrong with astros or chrome reverse steelies either with pinner whites. FONZI
I have seen pics of a blue convertible with a nice looking grill, but that is all I know about it. A friend suggested bullet caps and body color steel wheels. I am not doing a lot of body mods, but I am deleting a lot of trim. I really like Malcom's car. Something simple and reliable.
I just added you on car domain. Want to pic your brain about a few things,so I'll keep in contact with you over there
I say same blue, same wheels, same stance (or maybe a little higher in the front) as this 61 chevy,................ and maybe a thunderbolt style hood??
The stock blue is a possibility, but I have been looking at darker blues. I was offered a gallon of Viper blue, but that doesn't fit the look of the car. It is too flashy. Um, what 61? I am going to have to p*** on the hood for 2 reasons. 1-I can not afford it and 2-my stock hood is perfect.
In case you cant see the pic of the 61 I posted for some reason,I would say the color would be similar to the viper blue and it has the old style grey torque thrust wheels on it. The thunderbolt hood idea may be done too much anyway thats why I put the unsure question marks at the end of that comment.
The 61 pic doesn't show for me. Torque Thrusts would look good. I am definitely not going with any metal flake on this car, but satin colors are an option. This project has already snowballed. It started out as a chance to get my old car back and drive it. Then it came off the frame, then it got stripped, then everything was rebuilt and then... I don't think it ends.

There's a lot of looks for an early 60s full size that really work. While some can pull off a wide whitewall a 62 Ford looks better with the thin ones. Wheel choice is all you dude. Too many good but obvious choices out there. That car can look early drag race, low n slow, semi-restored, and some in between. I suggest picking a stock color then match as close to a modern formula. Even though I choke a bit sayin it, modern foreign colors work well for that. It's all going to boil down to the vision you have from your memories mixed with all of our screwy ideas. My 61 Belair will be low n slow with chrome wheels and fat whites. If I had yours I'd go blue, a bit nose high, chrome reverse wheels in the rear nice and fat, slender grey Torque Thrusts in the front with thin whites. But then again it's not mine.
Progress on my Galaxie has been slow. I have an engine built and it is ready for paint. I decided on oxford blue for the exterior. We sprayed some of the areas with acrylic enamel and the rest will be base/clear.
Thanks guys. Hopefully the main part of the body will be painted next weekend. I have parts piled everywhere and I am ready to put them on.
Well, the car still isn't painted. The engine is done and mated to the transmission. The heater/air conditioning is refurbished and reinstalled. The firewall is now the correct semi-gloss black.
skirts, sun roof, 5spd standard with a tallllll shifter instead of a Tremec , felt covered bench seats, lakers, smoothies and twin turbos on that 390
So far the plan is mild custom. The 352 will be replaced with a 402(.060 over 390), the automatic was ditched for a Tremec 3550 and the car has been lowered 2". A lot of the trim will not be going back on and the wheels will be black steelies with spyders and thin white walls.
Black steelies will look ok, but I would go with 14" or 15" supremes. Either way, it's your car and you need to feel it looks good to you. But I always thought supremes made galaxies look f'ing tight.
I considered Supremes, but I liked the "all business" look of the steelies. They were also free and that was the best price.
Why do these cars take so long to build? I finally have some paint on it. The roof is painted, but only the first coat. It is white right now, but will be sprayed the same blue as the body when I lay the lace out. I am going to try and get it jammed in this coming week.
