I recently got a 63 falcon ranchero, but I have no brake lights but the tail lights and blinkers work. after a day trying to get the headlight switch out fuses look good. I changed the Pressure switch. I am wondering if I am missing something hope you all can help and this isent to stuipid a question.
You should have 12V at one of the wires on the pressure switch. If not, look for a fuse or you have a bad turn signal switch ***embly. Also, you could have a bad connector or bulb in the rear tail light ***embly. Doug
Personally, I would go get one of those voltmeters that Harbor Freight has in their flyer for $1.99 this week and start at the bulbs and work backwards up the circuit until you find 12V with the brake pedal depressed.
cool thanks guys I have heard about the turn signal causing trouble but had no real details will pick up a meter and stuff tomorrow from work and go hunting
Even if you have 12 volts at one of the brake switch wires, it might not be making it back there. Check the big connection at the firewall for corrosion. I have had a couple early 60s Fords with this problem. I spent a while on one of them before I found the corrosion at the firewall plug. Just a thought.
Check first to see if you have voltave at the switch, If not run a hot wire to the other side wire. See if you have brake lights. If you orig wire is hot have some one check lights as you move signal lever.
you just need the tool to thread in two bolts to the wheel and a center bolt to push on the column to bring the wheel off. have you switched out the brake light switch on the master cylinder? no brake lights but turn signals work it's just the brake switch. i'm on my fourth one on my falcon.
oh yeah first thing I tried. My turn signals stopped working for a bit. I took the wheel off got them going again somehow. but it looks like I have no power to the pressure switch wires. but it seems falconman and roadrunners comments kinda counter each other. dose the 12v come off the fuse block to the switch and then up to the turn signal or dose the 12v come from the turn signal?
cheap investment and good insurance: a tube of dielectric grease. disconnect each wire, one at a time, dab a little DG on the male end and twist the connectors back together. this will do several things: you'll clean the connections and waterproof them a bit; you'll learn where everything hooks up; and you'll find your bad connection sooner or later. on multiple connectors, use a small br*** bore brush to clean them. pop apart the firewall connector plugs and do them too. 47 years of humidity and corrosion will cause plenty of headaches. BTW welcome to Falcon ownership; i've had about a dozen or so. they're popular on the HAMB.
