I hear ya. It is for that reason alone I have a large line of credit at my bank.

I try to have one to drive and one to build. My projects tend to be on the very low buck side by comparison, because I'm always BROKE! I have a wife, two daughters and a mortgage, and three projects. I'm scaring myself now. Do what your heart tells you to man, and you'll figure out a way to make it happen. That car looks super sweet!

The bank knows better than to give me a large line of credit.

KIRK! ... So does this mean MCD may end up rusting away on a Hawaiian island :( ??? (I recognized the "HAWAII Horseless Carriage" plates on the '36).

... and what is it with guys named "Kirk" ... do you all have to own '36 3wd's? ...

No, actually the current "potential" buyer is in Pennsylvania.

Yes, it is in the rules that all Kirks must own a '36. The difference is that if I do actually get one it will only be worth about as much as one of the doors on the one Cole built. Plus, I've driven Hammet's car and I know that tan '36 would NEVER drive as good.

  7. WPs in the heads were 32 thru 36, center outlets were 37 thru 48 and front outlets with bolt on thermostat housings were 49 thru 53. That 36 appears to be pretty damn "36" correct thruout, wont take much to do what you want with it or turn key for now as your plans change, like they will a hundred times. 36s are like 40s, very hard to improve on!! Dont let it get away from you, kids grow up and are gone before you know it and then its time for just you and Mom again, I speak from experiance. Now have to have space for the Grand Kid and am lovin it!!
Besides, it aready has a rumble seat!!! What else is needed!!!

Kirk! that 3 window has been on ebay at least twice. I was the 3rd place bidder on the 1st listing w/reserve and didn't bid the second listing [ no reserve ] cause I bought the 3 window coupe in my avatar for a 1/3 what I bid on that one. It was located in Hawaii. Where is it now? The second listing was no reserve. The funny thing is it was in hemmings for $40k and then on ebay for $23k? I had no one in Hawaii to go see if it was for real. The shipping quote was $126O from Hawaii to NY [ way 2 low ]. Something never seemed right with the whole listing [ 2 good to b true ] so use caution and see it in person [ or send someone ] before you part with your cash IF you get some.

    Hmmm...

Always good to be cautious. I did check with a shipping company who quotes me $895 to California.

    Good Luck!

Seriously though, I hope you get the '36... I'm trying to convince the Make A Wish Foundation I'm 16 and have cancer and the only thing I ever wanted was a '36 3 window... not working so hot for me...

Well, if this buyer comes through, MCD would be on your side of the country instead of up north.

I'm probably the only guy on here that had a pretty nice '36 three window and sold it in the last 10 years that is happy about it. When I was in high school in the fifty's, my dream car was a '36 3-Window wth a "3/4 race" '50 Merc flathead, a '39 ******, and later Ford hydraulic brakes. Well about 20 years ago, I found a restored 3-Window (in just about the same condition yours looks to be), for a reasonable price. It was a real nice looking car, but it was a "put together" car, so I wouldn't have any compunction about modifying a nice original. So, I did my thing; 276' '50 Merc with an Isky cam, Offenhauer heads, and (sorry) a 390 Holley and an MSD ignition (I built this to DRIVE).:)

I drove it for about ten years, and never had any real trouble with it. Oh, the usual broken axles, sheared keys, and broken ****** gears, but that was a result of the engine being so well done. If I coulda' stayed off of it, it would have been OK, but the engine was so good......

That however, wasn't the major problem. I'm only 6' and 215 lbs, and I just didn't fit into the darned thing. I had the seat pushed all the way back (far enough so it ripped the rear upholstery) and there still wasn't enough room. It was the only car I ever had where I'd actually "cramp-up" if I tried to put more than an hour or so in it. One of the problems was the original banjo wheel, which I just loved, but would cramp my hands up in 15 minutes. Finally, some local guy made me the proverbial "offer I couldn't refuse", and down the road it went.

In the final ****ysis, make sure you fit into it OK and then go for it. Me? I owned the car of my dreams for about ten years, and then moved on; I have not regrets.

wow! in my head , thinking to get the 36 ASAP! and do it right and drive it ,but allot of good points are being thrown out on here, like its been up for sale for a few years or so, and trying to see it up close or send someone to check it out for you..
it is buyers market out there and not a sellers market, tuff one..
    Good luck..

  21. It's got a back seat, roll the rear window down and let her ride out back. I'm sure she'd love it, install a couple of seat belts for safety reasons. There's plenty of room for her and a friend back there to go for a hot rod ride with dad. Besides, getting to ride in what you think is the trunk, is awesome when you're a kid.

If I was you I'd do it in a heart beat, It accomplished two of your main goals, paying of a credit card, and having a new car to drive and play with. The key to the project is to keep it simple: update it with juice brakes, dropped axle, rubber rake, 2x2 intake, Aluminum heads, i.e stuff that you can change in a weekend and keep it on the road.

It may not be the traditional pre-war custom or hot rod stance, but if it was me I would clone the stance and overall look done to this Brizio built '37 Ford Roadster with that '36 3-window, a resto look with hot rod influences.

I have always wanted a 36 three window.

It looks like it has a rumble seat with the roll-down back window.

I don't know your family or wife, but that seems like a four seater to me :)

Go for it, even if You have to ride in the rumble seat sometimes.

Or couldn't you drive the legion while they took the 36, ;)

good day dream, either way- good luck

Up until now I have not had a significant reason (disregarding everything people have said about you) to have any hateful thoughts about your existance on this planet. BUT...................if you get the '36 the quest for a reason IS over. Get the car and you'll be forever on my list of "people that I shouldn't hate but will because they have someting I want and don't have". If that doesn't put a chill down your spine let it be known that I, at one time, had a "not so ice" feeling about soft cuddly puppies. SO THERE, CAN'T SAY YOU HAVEN'T BEEN WARNED.

If the car's in HI, PM Jason (lucky444). He's in Honolulu and if it's on a different island, I'm sure he knows people that could look at it.

I have emailed back and forth with the guy now a couple of times. He explained the eBay stuff and is more than willing to show the car.

I guess none of it matters until I actually have the cash though.
