damn, man. glad you'll be back in business soon, it sounds. i've been lucky, drove through a herd as it crossed the highway. threading the needle, so to speak. i've had the belief that a loud stereo, and now that i'm under V8 power, loud pipes, DO save lives in this case. SAD to hear about your luck...

That blows. Least is was towards the end of the year so it didn't ruin the whole summer of fun. Plus, now you have a winter project?

  3. The part that sticks out in my mind is about 2 miles before, 2 chicks pulled up next to Me and Sparky and said "*****IN TRUCK".Then I told Sparky that I was gonna put it away for the winter that weekend. Then you know the routine....DEER..****..BANG....end of story!!

Hey, **** the Truck: Feel for the Deer [IMG] [IMG]

I got run down by a drunk many years ago. Up in the air, multiple sumersaults, landed like a sack of **** behind the car, and the ***hole would have kept going if I hadn't done so much damage to his front end that all his electrics blew. He stopped fifty feet down the road. Also bust his screen and peaked his roof!!

It was a small late model Jap car, so I got away with a fractured spine, cracked knee, and head lacerations.

I've never owned a metric car myself: Phobia? Maybe, after seeing that one totally lunch itself because it hit a 220lb body builder???

  6. With my insurance, they don't require a deductible if you hit a deer.

My younger bro fell asleep in his '01 Chevy S-10 when he was exiting the highway to pull over and go to sleep. He was one exit away from the exit to go to my parents house.

He sideswiped a light pole and ran through a 1" support cable. Luckily, he didn't get hurt, but messed up the grille/hood/fender/door and part of the bed.

My dad called the insurance co and told them that he was driving to the ranch and swerved to miss a deer (yeah, dad's a scammer too, haha). They paid for the repairs on the truck ($2,700) and my brother had to pay a $500 deductible. The insurance co said if they actually hit the deer (which didnt exist) that he wouldn't have had to py the deductible.

I been contemplating a fabricated "deer" collision on my truck in hopes that they'll rebuild my front suspension, hahahaha. [IMG]

That reminds me of the first time I took my red 50 poickup for a trial run. The emergency catch didn't work and the hood flew up at 50 mph. Scares the **** out of you and you can't see a darn thing with those hoods.

  12. Keep up the good work Bob!!! You'd think the insurance companies would pay the DNR to shoot all deer cuz it's gotta cost them a fortune in claims every year.

    Unbelievable fatality figures.

WASHINGTON - Cars and motorcycles crash into deer more than 4,000 times a day, and it's taking an increasingly deadly toll - on people.
Last year, a record 210 motorists were killed in collisions with animals, most of them deer. That was 40 more than the previous year and more than twice the number in 1993, according to a study by the Insurance Ins***ute for Highway Safety.

Accidents are most likely to happen in November, the ins***ute said, because hunters are out and deer are in the middle of their mating season, both of which cause the animals to be on the move. Crashes are most likely to occur during evening or nighttime, often on rural roads with speed limits of 55 mph or higher.

"The deer population is growing, and there are more vehicles on the road every year," Allan Williams, the ins***ute's chief scientist, said Wednesday. "There's just a lot more chance for interaction with animals on the roads."

Deer are involved in about 75 percent of fatal animal-crash accidents. In all, there were 1.5 million deer crashes last year, injuring 13,713 people and causing $1.1 billion in vehicle damage, the ins***ute said.

The study found most animal crashes involved one vehicle, and deaths usually were caused when the vehicle left the road or a motorcyclist fell off the bike. In relatively few cases, people were killed when the animal crashed through the windshield.

Other animals that cause crashes include horses, moose, dogs, bears, cats and opossums, though none is responsible for a significant number. Cattle also cause a small percentage of crashes, particularly in Western states.

Such animal-involved fatal crashes have been rising since the mid-1990s, according to federal data ****yzed by the ins***ute.

  15. Yes 6 dead over a tree stand. Some guy from Minn. was in a tree stand on private property, when approached by the owner he shot him,the wounded hunter went to get help and when other farmers came to find the guy he picked them off 1 by 1 with his scope.(including a teenager and a woman). They finally caught the guy when he ran out of ammo.It took place near Rice lake and Hayward about 15 miles from JYD's house.

Dan, man, I'm so sorry about your ride. ****!
...and I'm sorry I didn't see this. Why didn't ya call?

Wish I could make the OK trip with ya. That would have been a blast... ya might need 4-wheel drive if you head South though. Have a good trip.

RYAN- I hope it's okay if I reply to the previous post.
As to the shooting... (I won't say hunting incedent)...
It was 35 miles South of me. The guy, a ****ing tourist from Minnesota, named Chai Vang, was in someone's stand on private property. One of the owners saw him, and radioed to camp to see if anyone was supposed to be there. They said no, and the guy went to kick the tressp***er off. Two other guys came from camp, and the guy got out of the tree and started walking away.

Something happened, ???, and he and God only know why, but he turned and shot all three. He claims they shot first. I guess only one had a gun, two were unarmed. They had written the guys back tag # in the dust on one of the 4-wheelers so they could report him for tressp***ing. The guy with the radio (I think he's the sixth one that died in the hospital) called back to camp, again, to say he/they had been shot, so 5 more people went out (unarmed, I think), and Vang shot them as they approached. He shot the girl and at least one other, right off their 4-wheelers.

Then he took off, out of ammo, and got lost. Some hunters found him, but they had already spoken to a deputy, and knew who the guy was. They gave him a ride out of the woods, and right directly to the cops. (Me? I'd have blown his ****ing head off and taken the corps to the cops... but that's just me.) They did the right thing.

I want to say, for the record, if someone was on my land, in my treestand, and gave me so much as a pinch of ****... the arguement would get VERY heated.

...and the next bleeding heart that wants to debate the merits of the death penalty in Wisconsin, I'm all for it.
This ****er needs to get fried.
These things happen, not the killing, but the disputes. It might be over a tree stand, a fishin' hole or a parking space. You DON'T NEED to kill anyone... and, in this case, he kept killing... and killing. He shot and killed those poor people as they came to help those that they loved.

God bless every one of them and their families. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

It sure feels wierd, sitting out there hunting (still waiting for Mr Big) and thinking about how this could have happened. ****... it's sad.

Well, Dan, I'm sure sorry about your truck, but I fully expect to be involved in laying out the new scallops...

sorry about your truck man, and the rest of your guy's cars too.
Wild animal populations are exploding and the PETA types want to stop hunting, that would only make collisions like this more common.
I'm not a hunter, in fact I'm a damn vegetarian, but I don't shove my beliefs in your face.

As for that lunatic who shot those 5 people, whadda****?

A damn Laotion m*** murderer has got to be a rare thing.

It's a screwy wotld out there.
