1BA Flathead

    Hey!Can anyone help me with finding out what the differences are between a 1BA Flathead,and a 8BA Flathead?Thanks,Dave

    8ba 3 3/4 1 ba 4 inch
    1ba has more stroke.

    IBA is the Ford prefix for parts first used in 1951. (8BA means first use was in 1948-for 1949 model). BA means it was Ford-not Mercury. Mercuries were 8CM (First used in Mercury in 1948). A 1CM would be a part first used on a '51 Merc.

    '51 239, if innards match the heads. Differences are minimal, of no interest to rodders.

    I think the 1ba engine is where the rotating valves started.

    Can any flathead experts confirm this? I thought that the Mercury was the only 4” stroke flathead

    True, the Merc is a 4" stroke, all Fords are 3 3/4".
