i bought a '42 ford sedan for the front and rear end over the summer, and it came with this '47 ford 2dr ***le. no tags just the ***le. is this worth anything?
nah its not worth anything at all ill take it off your hands LOL.... whats it for truck, sedan, coupe?
For the most part in NC, and other states are getting that way as well, if you don't have the matching car it's not worth much.
the ***le came with the ford pictured, and whats left of that is sitting in my back yard. i was told the car was a '42, and the ***le is a '47 so i dont think the ***le is for that car. its singed by the seller, and only has 41,**x on it if anyone cares. ill be posting the ***le, whats left of the car, and some other pre '64 pontiac parts this week.
The car is a 42, fairly rare car. Only partial year before war production. I had a coupe.. In Michigan the ***le would not be worth much because of the ease of getting ***le on old cars here.
Here in New Hampshire it's worth about 5 bucks to hang on the wall of your man cave. We don't require ***les for anything over 15 years old. Life is good.. Live Free or Die...
What would I do? I'd sell it, but no bill of sale, nothing notarized, and I wouldn't use my own name. Why? Because if the new owner is asked "how did you get this ***le, when it doesn't match the stolen car?", he's going to name you. Don't let this happen.
I watched a guy sell "souvenior" cl***ic ***les for as much as $600 , some for $25 . I think the point is that you are not selling a ***le but a piece of art or a picture frame and what the person calls it when they get home is their bussiness
what the person calls it when they get home is their bussiness People have this tendency to say something quite different when they're in the ba*****t of the police station than what they told you. Been there, done that.
The nose on that is a '42, it will fit on the others so it could be a '47 with the '42 nose. i would love to have a coupe with that nose on it even if it was a later one. I would check the frame #s. What is the issue date on the ***le? Is that (OH) where you got it from?
I was told that the ***les match the motor numbers , that may or may not be true , just a little piece of info I heard , I took my car off the frame , and I didnt find numbers anywhere ,
It is supposed to be on the p***enger side frame rail below the cowl (i think), you will have to lift the body up to see it if I remember right. Was there a motor in the car? If so does the # on the motor match? (not sure where it would be)
Most (all?) Fords from at least 28 to 48 had the number stamped on the left frame rail just in front of the cowl. Topside, reading from the outside of the frame. I have seen many, many old Fords and cannot remember ever seeing a number that required body removal to view. Now, there are usually a second and possibly third set of VIN's stamped on the frame farther back that will require body removal to see.
I don't think '42 sedans got the rear anti- sway bar, and the smear on the deck lid looks like the former home of '47-8 trim...I think you mayy have a matching frame and number with a '42 nose. Lower edge of rear fenders differs, but I can't remember how... Look harder! frame plus ***le is something.
In New York it has no value, we don't use ***les and silly easy to get a registration with no paperwork.
Just looked at numbers on three different '40 -'48 Fords, all three were on top of the drivers framerail, right up by the front crossmember. These are pretty lightly stamped, so be careful cleaning up the area loking for it. I wirebrushed them, and then used toilet bowl cleaner to clean the area, but be careful and don't get any on you, or anything that you don't want acid cleaned!
The number should also be stamped on the top of the bell on the transmission, right above the little inspection plate. If frame, trans and ***le match, I would keep the ***le with the car.
I think the number is also stamped on the driver side frame rail on the "hump" above the rear axle or more forward on the frame. You can't see it with the body on the car.
