I have a buddy that has some functional spots that I can have for my 51 Chevy. I think I am going to get them, but I am not sure how they would mount an a car with such a thin A pillar. Would they go thru the door by the went wing instead?

Does anyone have any pics of a 49-54 Chevy car with real functional spot lights on it?

I think they would look pretty cool on this car:

They mount on the door just below the belt trim. I'll post a pic of one on my car in a minute... Mine's a Pontiac, but same general idea...

I'd check with Unity for the proper application. Nothing looks more stupid than to stick a modern copcar spotlight on an antique vehicle. Unity has the right mounts to make the process simple. See antique light applications.

I took these pics a while back, they aren't really focused on the spot light, but you should be able to see where/how it's mounted. I've seen original templates for marking where to drill on the body so someone out there probably has them if you'd want the exact location.

Here is an Appleton on my '52 Chevy Hardtop. It goes thru the "A" pillar, NOT the door. Good luck.

I guess a person could mount it where they can get it to work for them, but the original optional GM Guide spotlight went through the door, not the pillar.

The original teardrop bracket wouldn't even work on the pillar...

FASI's car must be a hardtop. the a pillar is thicker on those then a post car.

Ya my A pillar is real thin. No way a spot could go thru it without weakening it considerably.

i personally think the spots look cleaner on the A pillar then the door. at least on the pillar you can turn them in onto the windshield a bit more. Blown, what about tyring to reinforce from behind if its accessible?

Ya I suppose that may work, but it would take a pretty big chunk out of the windshield seal. I will do them on the door, since thats where the original Chevy ones would have been.

If through the door, does the light head move or shift position when the door is shut hard? Maybe the difference in mounting is due to body style and who manufactured the spotlight.
