ok so i picked up a 60 f250 this week because it was a good bit more solid than most of the f100s i've looked at within a 250 or so mile range from me. i need to get rid of the 8 lug stuff for 5 lug. anyhow getting to the point i know out back i can just grab a 5 lug pattern 9" as the easy solution and theres actually a 65 f100 chassis with a good 302/c6 and the proper 5 lug rear i can get local for $500. so now i'm looking at my options for the front. so what is the year range of proper donors to swap in. i've found a complete drum to drum stock axle from a 59 in fl or theres a 3" dropped axle with disc conversion from a '49 out west for about what a dropped axle alone cost. shipping may be killer on either. i want to drop the truck 5-7". i know the 3" drop of the early would only be a 2" drop compared to the stock 57-60 axle. that and flipping the axle to the top of the springs would probably get me in the range i'm looking for. yes i know it'll probably have bumpsteer unless i raise the box which isn't a big deal. or should i just say to hell with it and go pull the jag front clip out of the car at the pullapart and do the jag clip and get whatever rear to match the 5 x 4 3/4 pattern. honestly that may be the easier method but i don't know if the jag clip will drop the truck as much as i'm looking to. though i'm sure jag clip and if anything maybe lop a coil off the springs may put me in that range. i can possibly find a stock f100 set up closer if i know what the full range of years i can pull from is. i've read something that 49-53 have a different kingpin inclination than the 54-60. i've also heard the earlier axles are a touch narrower. and that 53-64(until the twin I beam) are all the same. can somebody confirm what my full range of possible donors are for keeping it straight axle...ken....
For a bolt together swap, 57-60 are the year interchanges. 53-56 can work, but requires work. I would say dropped axle and mono's or reversed eye springs. There is a 57-60 social group on here and there's information on lowering. As far as the parts being removed, its not likely anybody's going to need much, but the drums might sell and the rear end ratio and possibilty of a limted slip may help with a sale.
