Put a 70's Chevy Truck crossmember in the front end. Grab the power master cyl from the same truck and bolt it up. Whammo, power brakes, and 5 bolt wheel pattern for the front end. Use the rear end out of the truck to convert to 5 bolt wheels for the rear end.

lots of pics and info on the swap here:

  3. don't have to change the crossmember, just the upper and lower ball joints from a 73 up and then get everything from a 73 up truck at the junk yard.....done this many times works perfect........if you want to go the extra mile and put power steering, get the complete setup off the 73 up donor truck including all tie rods, idler arm and center link. only major mod you will have to do is drill a couple holes for the newer style idler (real easy) and you will have to get the steering box adapter off ebay or from CPP, costs about $85.00 or so.........

  4. 1320gasser don't you mean "upper & lower A -arms?

Nope, he's right. The later model ball joints interchange into the earlier arms if you desire.

I personally change to the later control arms myself though. The reason is, starting in 1973, the control arm bushings are press in rubber. Prior to that, they were screw in steel. The rubber ones are very much cheaper to replace.

indeed, but there are ways to do it that require not a whole bunch more work that give you much more than just power brakes.

I dunno, I'd say changing front and rear ends constitutes a lot of work;)

Anyway, for the OP, I'd be looking for a GM 3/4 ton MC/Booster from a drum-drum truck. I'd also suggest a pick and pull type place, just to get cheap parts incase they need to be rebuilt or exhanged...then you have cores.

The '65 may have a single resevoir for the MC (not sure when Chevrolet changed over), and most likely what you'll find will be a dual resevoir, so you'll probably have to do some re-plumbing/modifying of your current lines.

Send me a pm with contact info. My families place has several of the donor vehicles you need the parts from. I've done the swap many times. Did I mention cheap?

I got a buddy that uses a lot of the late 80s bronco II brake booster, they are really small and the pedal works good too. Might take a look at one?

Thanks guys. I just bought a whole 86 chevy c10 with 305 that runs good and a blown tranny for 300. Think I can use the brake booster in that? I'm gonna pull out the 250 and put this motor in. What motor mounts do you guys use?

If you haven't done it already, get over to www.67-72chevytrucks.com and sign up. There's a wealth of info about chevy trucks, panels, burbs, and blazers to be found for all years there.

60-66.com if I remember correctly, I had a 61 and I ended up with 71 master - proportioning valve, calipers & mcgaughey disc front brakes for mine. Check the actuator rod, finally got mine right and it worked like a champ
