does anybody remember a video game from the late 80s/early 90s that you could do pretty in-depth customizing on cool old cars? a friend of mine was tellin me about it a long while ago, and i cant for the life of me remember what it was called... it was similar to the Street Rod games, but i think was made by a different company. I think he said it was for DOS......
The four player one? That thing ruled! I blew so much money on: Joust Defender Asteroids I probably could have had a cool car in high school if I hadn't blown it one quarter at a time!
I became a computer programer for a living partly because I got tired of putting quarters into Pac Man machines.
That's the one, Street Rod. There was a sequel to it as well. You can pick up emulators on the net and play them in all of their 2 bit graphic glory.
I remember playing that one and the sequel as a kid! Fix them up, sell them, race them! It was great!
Street Rod was my favorite game growing up. I spent countless hours playing that as a kid. Won the King's Corvette with my Ford Fairlane. We are overdue for a sequel to I and II of this, using modern gaming systems/computers. The only other decent retro game I can recall was from many years later, during the early Windows XP days. EA made a MMORPG around old school racing called Motor City Online. It was a cool concept and was very entertaining to play, but I'm firmly against 'monthly cost' subscription games, especially when you have to dish out an initial 60$ to start with. I think that is what killed the game off, lack of continued interest, further instigated by monthly costs. EDIT: If you want to take a trip down memory lane, it is free. http://www.streetrod3.com/cl***ics.php Looks like someone is working on a revival of the game after all.
I don't know man, I really liked MCO. I played the hell out of it. I had bunches of sticker cars with zero miles too. I loved every minute of it. I didn't mind dishing out the money every month just as long as they continually made improvements and didn't destroy the mechanics or economy of the game.
Wow I was just thinking about that game a few nights ago, I spent MANY hours playing it while I was living in the dorms at school. Keith
Theres one out now it's been out for a few years midnight club dub ed. It's bad *** they have old vets old fleet lines and so on .PS2 is what mines for look it up. Its a sick game.
Hot Rod magazine had a game that looked a lot like the motor city game. It was fun ,you started out with a little bit of money and raced to build up your car .
It's been so long I don't remember how to soup up the cars to make them faster. I remember how to race though. I bought some carbs and manifolds, just can't seem to get them to go on the car......ahhhh Now I remember why I went to "real" cars at an early age.. It is fun though driving down memory lane..
I recall being at the engineering meeting where we reviewed the Atari coin operated (Arcade) version. black and white screen, blocky graphics. Two players stood side by side, one drove the top car one drove the one below. The cars ran from left to right, you did have to shift at the right time to get a good et. Check out those graphics!
i still have this i loved it as a kid <TABLE cl***=tborder id=post4722651 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD cl***=alt2 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e5e5e5 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #e5e5e5 0px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #e5e5e5 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #e5e5e5 0px solid" width=175></TD><TD cl***=alt1 id=td_post_4722651 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e5e5e5 1px solid"><!-- icon and ***le --> Re: might be OT---looking for 80s video game <HR style="COLOR: #e5e5e5; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and ***le --><!-- message -->Quote: <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD cl***=alt2 style="BORDER-RIGHT: 1px inset; BORDER-TOP: 1px inset; BORDER-LEFT: 1px inset; BORDER-BOTTOM: 1px inset">Originally Posted by koolkustoms street rod is the only ones i remember </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> That's the one, Street Rod. Yep. Thats it!! I would play it but sold my atari long ago...Time to hit the thrift shops and garage sales..I kept the game just for the coolness--its been sitting in my speed parts showcase for a while. I hope it will still work.
Didnt they have chrysler corvettes in that game, or am i thinking of a differnt one, BTW the windy road ****ED!!! I always wrecked on that one!!
The only car game we had for the old Atari 2600 was Pole Position. But in the 8th grade the school I went to had an IBM computer instead of the Apples the other school stuck with, and it had a demonstration game programmed in basic where you were in a race car and had to shift lanes to avoid hitting a donkey. Real goofy. Of course by then we knew enough basic that we switched the values so you got points for hitting it...
I love Dragster! I remember having it on Atari when I was little, and me and all my friends though it was awesome cuz it was soooo ancient. Non of us could afford a playstation yet.... I just found this for anyone whos interested- http://www.motorcityoffline.republika.pl/index.html it takes forever to download, but it looks fun.
I still have my Atari and dragster and Donkey Kong.LOL was playing with it the other day. But playing on a big screen is wayyyy better than the B/W tv that we had as a kid. You know we could not use it on the big color tv cuz it would leave lines in the screen. LOL
