Yes, Ford made an 8" posi. I had one with 4:10's in a 64 or 65 Falcon and kept blowing the spiders. In my experience it was not all that strong or at least for my beatings even with a fairly mild 351W. I finally gave it away and put a 9" in the car. As best I remember this was available in mid 60's Falcons, Mustangs, Fairlanes etc. I believe that the Hi-Po cars were all 9" but a buddy of mine has a K-code Mustang with an 8" and he believes it is the original rear end. I am not sure about the late model fox body Mustangs but they have an 8-something in them. Too new for my brain. Joe
the Mustang II was the last use of an 8" rear in a mustang...the Fox body used the 7.5 and some got the 8.8, but they all have a rear cover, not a drop out third member.
Mavericks had them. Seems like they were more common in snow areas. My buddy in Canada says he found them all the time.
the 1975 Maverick Grabber i bought new had a "posi" , but i believe ford called them traction lock or something my god, did i beet the **** out of that thing..i wish i had that rear end now
Look at early Rancheros and and Fairlane wagons-63-67...Ford put traction locs in those as they were considered utility vehicles...they are on ebay, but expensive...good luck.
Modern lockers are available for a few hundred dollars, and limited slips, too, if you are willing to spend the money.
Would the 8" have had the basic Equa-loc with 2 spider gears or an actual form of Trac-loc with a 4 spider carrier? 9" was available with both, but I wonder would Ford have bothered to make the changes to the 8" as well? I've never come across an 8" posi locally and we're in the snow belt! Pulled quite a number of 8"ers apart over the years too... Makes me think that they're a rare breed!
i have the earlier 8 inch with the equalock in my coupe...... this site will help you in identifying the one you have..... http://kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm
8" posi very rare around here. Definitly few +far apart! I can get more for an 8" posi. than I get for 9" Traction Loc.
