I'd like to contact members who happen to have complete collections of old model car magazines. As a kid in high school I built several models that appeared in these magazines. While I don't have the exact issues, I do have zerox copies of all those pages, except one.

So, if any of you happen to have magazine collections that go back to the 60's, please PM me. I think I'm looking for either Model Car Science or Car Modeler magazines in the 1965-68 range, specifically a little write-up on an altered wheel base Dodge I built. While my model didn't win any prize in the contest I entered, the photographer who took photos of it did! I lived in Waukegan, IL at the time. Model credits should be to me, Gary Nichols. Thanx, Gary

If no one here has what you're looking for, you might want to try the modelcarsmagazine forums. There are quite a few guys on there that have been building and collecting for some time.

I don't have a complete collection but I did find an Aztec Gold Stingray attributed to Gary Nicols of Waukegan, Ill. in the Feb 65 issue of Model Car Science. Unfortunately I didn't see any altered wheelbase Dodges but my collection ends in Sep 65

If you know the exact issue you may be able to purchase here

This may prompt a memory as well

    Hope this helps
PM me if you are interested in the Stingray issue

    Chris,
GREATLY appreciate your reply. And RATS - so close. That goofy looking Stingray was my first entry in the old Revell contests. The following year I won for an A/Gas dragster I built and Revell sent me an 80cc Yamaha trail bike for my efforts. The model Mopar Altered wheelbase in question was dark blue with a Hemi and huge injector stacks. As I mentioned before, my photog won a prize for his pix, but my car didn't place. That contest wasn't a Revell deal, but a "send in your photo" contest. Thanx again, Gary

I remember a magazine back in the early 60's, it was a small format mag about 6" x 9"
Does anyone remember what it was called?

I do have Model Car Science from the beginning through the early 70's and Car Modeler(?) from the 60's through early 70's as well (though not as many...very sporadic what I have with those). Some of the late 60's of Model Car Science are missing (mostly 1968...when my Uncle was in Vietnam) But I will look for you tonight....and let you know what issue if I have it....I do have doubles of a few.

Damn Gary....no luck....all of the 1968 year for Model Car Science is missing, and with the Car Modeler, all I could find are the very early "pocket-book size" issues and 1969 and up. I know I bought several from Larry Goyda the past few years, but I cannot locate those because they are not amongst the collection I recieved from my Uncle. I 'll keep looking, but it is not looking good from my end....

I think it might be in Car Modeler, they did have right-ups for about 8 or so modelers in each issue and gave locations, and it was not just show winners.

Thanx for looking... fun eh, seeing all those old adverts and low prices! I think these contests had themes and they had one or two "big" contests per year. Also, I don't ever remember seeing "little books" for just model cars. I must be too young! So, were they called "Little, little books?" Gary

Gary, I do not have any model mags from that period, but I know a few people that probably do. I will put the feelers out. I'm enthused to track down the specific mag you are looking for anyway, just because I love them old AWB builds!

Wonderful news. I sure appreciate it - no rush of course, it's only been a zillion years since then. Gary

I looked through '66 to '68 MCS and CM with no luck. It must be in one of the issues that I am missing. Sorry.
