I've put a few things out there for sale, and all I got was nuts and people wanting things for free. Or, better yet, trying to rip you off one way or another.

I put something out there and after screwing around with the 'I'll take it, I'll be there soon', and never show up. Then the second person, do you just sell it, or wait for the first.

If I ever put anything out there again, It'll be first come, first served. I'll give em my address and the first one here gets it. None of this I'll take it, hold it for me crap. You want it, get in your damn car or truck and come get it. I won't hold it for anyone.

Maybe I'm just bitter about the whole CL thing, but it reminds me of Walmart. WTF do these people come from?! lol

  2. rob, your dealing with CRAIGSLIST DUDE! the fact that you recieved a "i'm passing on the car because.." e-mail should tell you the guy is ok! when you think about it the guy has no obligation to you to ever recontact you at all. this economy has people still wanting but can't spend mentality. next time step up and put a ad in the seattle times and all that will achieve is less $$$ in your pocket and a different group of buyer liable to commit the same said offense of vehicle purchasing.

yep, never consider it a deal until money changes hands.

  6. What really pissed me off the guy made a offer, all good. Sent a boat load of pictures and wasted most my morning and early afternoon. Answered all his questions , ... I guess the wife must have put the skids on it. Oh well, that's how it goes.

What I have leaned from this post and the other thread is that I seriously doubt I will buy a car or parts from anyone on here.Let's say I see a ad for a car down in Des Moines Iowa.4 hour trip one way.I can tell the seller I will be down with cash, tell him I'm on the way, call when I'm on the road but according to most of the posters there is a fair chance that car can be sold by the time I get there.Plenty of posts about not holding cars,Cash on the dash, first one with cash gets it etc.Looks like local sales for me from now on.Wonder if any of the sellers ever got that same treatment when buying something more than 15 minutes away?

With the internet, digital cameras, email, and paypal, is there a reason why you can't decide that you want it, send a few $$ over paypal for them to hold it for you, and then get down there within a reasonable amount of time?

/Wow, talk about a run on sentence! Too bad I'm too lazy to go back and fix it! :)

  9. Time to close this thread please, so if a moderator could do this for me , thank you. I've said enough, and read everyones post . Thank you !

Until they show up with the money I don't give it a second thought. I figure they're just talking. I also let them know from the start it's still for sale until they get there with the cash. Hope getting it off your chest lightens things up.

  11. If a guy backs out on a deal, for whatever reason,he should at least contact you and "man up". I might not be happy with someone changing their mind, cause it happens, but I'd be really pissed if the guy avoided me.

wow that was a long time ago. thanks for bringing it up though. i was thinking maybee there was something about the way you talked to him that led him to email you rather then deal with that mouth of yours. just a thought here. imagine you of all people not likeing how YOU were handled while ass reaming on someone else that did not like the way they were handled by someone else. WOW ITS ALL ABOUT YOU ISNT IT.
Now you come on here and rant about some deal didnt go your way??? WTF does this have to do with the HAMB. Is this the new I didnt get my way on craigslist rant board.

Like others have said before..its just a sign of the times. Years ago, you had something to sell, you advertised it in the local papers. Maybe you had 10 people interested and 2 that had the cash to buy it. Now you advertise an CL or EBay, you have thousands of interested parties, 90% of them lunatics. And maybe 100 or so serious. You just have to wade through the Shit to find the real deal.
You still have a much better audience than you had back then. You just have to grin and bear it!

Not a car but Craigs List just the same.
I had an antique farm tractor (meticulously restored) listed on CL. Sent out hundreds of pictures to at least 30 different inquiries. One fella from about 700 miles away decides he wants it after asking every imaginable question and we agree on a price. Next day he calls and wants to know if I can meet him part way as its a really long distance for him to go for the tractor. I tell him I'll let him know, I'll have to think about it. (Clearly spelled out in the add "pickup only, no delivery") I call him and tell him I will go 350 miles one way for .50 cent a mile one way just to cover my gas. He goes off and says thats not really helping him with the cost! Next day I get an email saying his trans went out in his truck so he has to pass.
Next guy. He's only 100 or so miles away. 3 phone calls (none shorter than 20 min.) and he wants to come look at it on sunday afternoon. OK. He gets here, wife drove him, and wastes 2 hours of my time just looking at it and asking the same questions he's already asked several times before. Finally he says he'll be comming back through in 10 days and might want to look at it again, can I call him and give him first shot at it if someone else comes to buy it between now and then.
I told him, without hesitation, first guy who shows me the money owns it.
Next guy calls and asks questions, sets up a time to see the tractor and hear it run. Comes and spends 15 min. looking and asking a few more questions and says I'll take it. He wants to give me a deposit and come back 2 days later with the balance and his trailer. I didn't take his deposit, instead I told him to bring the full amount when he picked it up.
Older guy who understood what giving a man your word was not somthing done without following through.
Tractor was picked up and paid for in full as promised.
I'm think the jerks out number the honorable by at least 20:1. I just wasn't raised that way.

Buying and selling crappy outcome #12...a deal is struck and cash changes hands, Guy sez "I can't take this thing home right now, my wife will kill me can I leave it here for awhile?" Yeah I know at that time "awhile" should have be defined and rules should have been set..but don't you think after two years of being stored behind a fence, with a night light and a live-in watchman the guy would want to do the right thing and give you $20?!..I know, I know, nice guys finish last and people will just see it as an opening to take advantage you...

A piss poor misquote at best. i left it alone as i felt so bad for you. in YOUR WORLD "getting down and dirty, bangin steel" would be the same as getting a paper cut while tearing out a check! Owey I need a band aid.

  26. NO it's " not all about me" , who needed your two cents worth anyway. I bet you didn't even read the start of this thread. FYI, your thinking is way wrong, and my "mouth" didn't have anything to do with it. So I will hope this thread is closed, so won't be the "craiglist rant board" any longer. LOL !!!

Here's a few quotes I try to live by:

"In God we trust all others pay CASH!"

    "Money talks: B.S. walks"

    my 2 cents.

My advice: if you're going to use the internet to try to sell or buy something, then expect weird situations. Remember, it's REAL easy to send a note asking for pictures/ask questions/etc.

I prefer to sell stuff locally, right off my front lawn. This way it's a face-to-face situation, no BS. Yeah, it limits the playing field, but that's the trade-off. Want to cast a huge net to snag as many fish as you can? OK, but expect to catch some old tires and toilet seats in that net. :)

Incredible that you would say that! My 2 cents and the 2 cents of ALL the other people that are on this board are what make it run. The fact that YOU would even say thay shows youR ITS ALL ABOUT ME MENTALITY
Oh hell yes i read the start and how that mean man didn't even call you back. You sound like a jilted prom girl. As an FNG you felt free to put me in my place. This is so typical of city worker, check book builders that lift themselves above those that THEY feel THEY are above. Yes Rod this is about YOU. YOU created this thread YOU chose it YOU did not like how it was going YOU chose to have it closed. YOU chose to take another shot at me when I only agreed with other posters. Now YOU want it closed again . Kinda sounds like it IS ALL ABOUT YOU ROB
