Found these neat previews of some '60's street racing video. Part two is a bit better because they throw in an old Willys. Still both are cool as hell if your into the whole '60's G***er craze. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aEVyhAuMVs&feature=related (Part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00v0ZRT5u0c&feature=related (Part 2)
Pretty damn "koolsville" for a you tube creation. I dig pullin' it up from time to time. Makes me wish it was summer and I had my 56' out!
I always loved bein the starter. Drop your arms and run straight back as fast as you can! My ears are ringin thinkin about it. There was a time the crew I hung with ruled the west side of Motown. Great days, good fun, sober car guys. Then the guys from the 'hood came along with guns and **** followed by the kids and wannabes. Game over. Time to rule the tracks and the advent of street legal cl***es. I suppose a good thing really, but I'll go on record as saying 3AM on the streets is a gig that has no equal, a feel that can't be duplicated. Every winter we do the same thing with our sleds in northern MI. And yes the cops show up and chase us away there too! Lucky us, they have a standing 'do not pursue' order for obvious reasons...TREES!!!
Highlander,if you don't mind me asking;what time frame were you speaking of? I lived in Leavonia and Wasteland(Livonia and Westland for the uninformed) back in '74-5 and rolled on Telegraph with some yahoos I knew from down that way. There were some stout machines around that way and some legendary characters(present and future) that raced then. Curious as to what happened to some of the principals from that mid-to-late Seventies era? I got to know Nick Zuk,both from the street and later when we were both involved with the model car scene. I hope he's well;one of the really good guys in my book. There was also a guy on Tele with a '69 Mustang Mach 1,originally a 428 SCJ car,but with a 427 Hi-Riser in its place. He worked at General Kinetics Cams, and the car never sounded the same from weekend to weekend,as there was a different grind in there every weekend. Been the starter myself a few times;few thrills like it. Ran decoy a LOT;pulled the crowd with me somewhere other than where the race was held-it was common here in Genesee county. Some good times then... One more thing-COOL videos;I hope that project pans out for those cats.
