Man I realy like your car. Guys will talk about glass cars, but use filler all day long !Thats fiberglass {polyester} resin and talc and some polyester spheres .Opps maybe thats not cool but my 33 3 window is gonna have a nice coat of it. I love the coupe keep sanding .You like what you are building thats all it boils down to. I have used panel bond 2 part epoxy to bond fiberglass and metal. I have had great luck with it. Im building a chevy because I could not AFFORD a ford 3 window!! Keep on getting after it. Oh by the way thumb buster da sanders are usually the only ones that lock and spin just for guys who have one and did not know that it will grind with finer papers. We do a lot of stainless steel polishing and this how we get close before buffing it.

Just found this tonight & had to read the whole thing ....... great job

Looks like your a little "Monkish" about the casting flash ...... but your grinding work has paid off.

I'll continue to watch & be inspired.

I have not visited this board in a while so I have not seen this thread before last night. I noticed the exact same thing, how much bigger the little girl is.

Nice car btw, Keep it up man.

nice progress. Had the same issue with my '34, Not a lotta cash but wanted the real steel look, or feel.

I did the stock firewall and hole sawed the rear of the body to look like steel added window cranks and swing out windows, all the things I'd want in a steel car. Ryan did a post ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=165) that started started a mess of glass -vs- steel post. But really It didn't matter what others thought, I was happy so was my wallet.

I started this build in 06 when Shelby was 3. She turned 6 on Thanksgiving day. I started this thread last January so it seems more has happened in one year.

The weather man says upper 70's this week so I plan on painting the body. I will have to wait on the doors and trunk. Well, back to work.....

Started on the second door tonight. The garnish molding has to be thickened, widened and sanded flat on the edges. I am building up ledges in the molding to hold the wood needed for the glass felt. After the glass filler hardens I epoxy the wood to it. There is a strip of wood on the inside of the door as well as the molding.
Above you can see the greenish fiberglass filler in the door holding the wood in place. The white epoxy hold the wood down.

I'm sanding the edge flat so I can get the molding ready for that strip of oak you see there. The last picture is me cutting the window opening. I need more room to fit the modified molding. [IMG]

I wish the doors where done. I will have to take a break on them to get the firewall and other parts ready for some "cool vanilla" paint. I hope to paint them tomorrow if it gets warm enough. I want all the parts painted before I paint the body on Thursday. Over spray sucks.......

Here you can see where I glued the oak strip to the molding. Below you can see where I cut the window opening larger to fit the new oak strip.

Making fiberglass bodies look good on the inside is not an easy task. I give you a lot of credit as you are a perfectionist also capable of doing perfect work. Rare combo!

I built the shop. It's not finished yet, I need to get it done so I can paint in the booth. I will get back to work on it as soon as I finish the coupe.
Today I worked on the firewall and finishing up the body for paint tomorrow! The firewall needed some cutting to clear one of the valve covers. I got it all welded up today.

I did get it primed but no paint tonight, too cold. I will get it done tomorrow and the body to.

I can't wait to take my little girl for a ride! Page 26 on this thread is January of this year, every thing before that is from the past years. I was slow at first because I was still hunting parts and there's no way I could put that much money into it all at once. You know when you hear people say, People just don't understand how much time, money and energy goes into building a car. I understand now..........

The axle and rims look great. Is that an "off-white?"

Is the rear of the car staying that high up,or are you bringing it down later once it's all dialed in.This is one BADD ASS thread.Keep it coming.

The ass end was way too high so I cut four of the leafs into blocks and that was no enough. Instead of reversing the perch spring I cut out three inches of the center, welded it back together and drilled a new center hole for the bolt. Now the ass is down where I want it. Sorry, no picture of the stance yet.

this is a great thread, but i can't help but think at some point you will build a 32 body from scratch out of metal.

Just read from beginning to end. Totally cool. Who gives a rat's ass what its made of? The quality of workmanship and attention to detail goes far beyond whether its steel or not.

If the nay sayers can step up to this type of craftsmanship, then fine, they deserve to be heard. Otherwise? Well

Best wishes to you as you continue on this build. I think it deserves magazine time even unfinished. Better than some of the crap being displayed.

Take care of yourself, and keep on keepin on..
