Flathead V8 manifold question.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rockabillybassman, Jul 2, 2009.

  1. Other than being able to retain the stock generator position, what is the benefit of long risers, as on a Thickstun PM7 manifold?

I've run a PM 7 for about 15 yrs but I found that although it looked neat, with the real tall stacks, the carbs had a hard time heating up to operating temp and I felt the fuel didnt atomize correctly leading to a rich mixture. I think that if you live in a warm weather climate it might be less of a problem but if the temps are in the 60's it takes a long time for this intake to warm up. I recently changed engines and used the shorter offy style intake and found that my car ran much better especially around town and a traffic speeds.
