thats funny to see a car in a museum with overspray on the tires. looks like it was a rush to get the place open.

Cool - looks like there might be some Chinese tin that could be worked into something HAMBish :)

The blue 3 wheler in the pic is a BullAnt. There's a truck dealer just round the corner from my work that sells them here. Single cylinder diesel and belt drive, I think.

Unfortunate...but so true. I lived that one. My first meal in Beijing was "bones of pig" Basically, the knuckle and six inches of bone. Eaten by sucking the marrow out as a soup. Sorry I missed the museum, it would have been the high point.

  10. I see a lot of things copied from American cars; from styling features to the whole car looks like a scaled-down clone of something.

That Blue one with the overspray makes me think the shit I did when I was 16 could make it in there.

On the other hand, if this is the crap in a museum, what the hell are they driving on the roads?

Hi Eric its about 80km out of Beijing CBD, will try and track down the phone number as the guys there will need to explain it to the driver. I included it in a trip to the Great Wall and can recomend a good driver/guide if you need it.

The cars may be dirty as its -10 outside and not much warmer in the shed so wouldnt think too many people would be keen to have the washing water out....

There were a few listed and I PM'd the guys who had some post counts but didnt hear back from them which is probably my fault as I did it the day before I left for the trip.

Its an amazing place that is still powering. 9.7% growth this year and cranes everywhere. Most people go there looking for oppurtunities to identify products to bring back to their own countries, for me the greater oppurtunity is the reverse. If I do move over there will certainly be looking at getting some rods over..... It might even work to my advantage that "new" builds in Cali will be titled as 2010 builds as all cars have to be under 12 years of age....

China is a amazing place with all of the growth going on. A few very rich people and a lot of very poor people. This is what I saw the last time I was there......

  19. Definitely need to hire a detailer or two. It can't be that hard to train a couple of seven-year-old slave kids how to run buffers, can it? (oops...)

Seriously, they could have a very interesting display with a little time spent on the vehicles there. Dig the blue overspray on that Russian Volvo P244 sorta-lookalike!

My understanding is that MOST of the older Western cars in China were from embassies and consulates, and that those countries that brought their own vehicles into the country, had to expert them out when their use was no longer required, or else they'd have to be given up to the ChiCom government. Don't know how true that is/was, but the biggest-selling car in China right now is the locally-produced Buick Skylark, built under license from GM by Geely Motors Ltd, which is the largest Chinese producer of automobiles.

    Nice pics!

  20. New Buicks - or bycycles.

I'd guess there's not a lot of old-car salvage yards in China and a lot of the Russian cars there probably is no market for repo parts like there is for say a Ford or Chevrolet. As for the restoration work, it's no different than here, cheap and acceptable or expensive and well done, you pick which you want.

Now what's this someone else posted they don't allow you to drive cars more than 12 years old? Really? ... guessing at reasons why would probably quickly devolve into politics, though, let's not jump in with your opinions on that.

Thanks for posting this, I'd never have seen them if it wasn't for you, and well, the Hamb:D

Wild how they just seem to have been put away by crackhead valets...just stop and leave 'em where they stop:p Definitely a different attitude about what constitutes saving in a museum, that's for sure.

  24. I saw a HK Holden sedan in China which was converted into a 4 door ute (pick-up). The farmer told me (my interpreter) that Holden bought one of every model in "68 to a motor show in China somewhere, and they sold them all off locally.

I bought and built the Sebring MX many years ago out of Fargo ND. The thing I was wondering is who made the name badge with USA/China? It looked way out of place but I guess if they had the bucks any thing is possible.

It is a ZIS/ZIL. A Russian built vehicle that was inspired by the 1941-1942 Packard.

Pretty cool to see it in the museum.

Here is a bit on the 110.
