If I get hot on interior, I will be long hauling in my 56. And get hot on rebuilding trans, and installing interior..... Looks like it's going to be another pull it off the jackstands and leave for the power tour year...

It's still fun to do but not even close to the fun factor back 10 years ago when the Hot Rod Mag staff was running the event instead of Family Events. Man we had some awesome fun, and true cross country long hauls.

Bring back coast to coast!! :D

    Guys,
Did the "Long Haul" this year with my brother in his Firebird. Was a great time and I highly recommend doing it if at all possible! Not sure if my work schedule will allow me to go this year, but I'm gonna try!

Planning on making a few stops but not doing the long haul. It helps that my hometown was picked as one of the stops.

I highly recommend it to anyone who is unfamiliar (is there still anyone unfamiliar with the power tour?)

  13. Where is it going to be? Is it on Hot Rod's website the route?

Your right, that was an AWESOME kickoff party but had to have been earlier then that...maybe 1998 or '99. 2000 was the year it went from San Berdo to Panama City Beach Florida. I did the entire trip in my '47 Chevy convertible that had gotten smashed at the Grand Canyon on my way out to CA from Detroit.

We've been close to crossing paths for over a decade now yet until just this year we never did. Funny how that works.

1352 miles is not a long haul, that's one way to the HAMB Drags...

Denise is right, bring back coast to coast...

Yes. Did it last year with my brother he is talking about doing it again this year.

We do a longer haul getting to the start and then back home after!

Did the early cross country ones and they were a blast!

Cities are posted, but not all venues. Actuall route won't be posted untill 2 or so weeks before it starts. Check www.bangshift.com Forums & the magazine site/Forums. Long Hauled '06, '07' & '09. Due to changes @ work will probably only do Birmingham to Mobile, though starting @ Bowling Green is a slim possibility.

  20. Begins Saturday, June 5th in Newton, IA (depart Sun morn)
Sunday, June 6th arrives in Springfield, IL
Monday, June 7th arrives in DuQuoin, IL
Tuesday, June 8th arrives in Bowling Green, KY
Wednesday, June 9th arrives in Chattanooga, TN
Thursday, June 10th arrives in Birmingham, AL
Friday, June 11th concludes in Mobile, AL (Long Hauler Awards Saturday)

I'm doing the first four legs. Work schedule won't allow any more.

  21. Yeah kinda takes the fun out of it for us west coast types hell we gotts run 2/3s across the country just to enter tha event, maybe setup a west coast mountian range deal...........then again maybe I'll just hit more goodguys events up north,,,

    I'll second that!
We did the first couple of days of the 99 tour, we logged around 1000 miles and it was half the tour.

I've always thought a northern route would be cool. Something like Portland OR to Boston. Now that's a long haul with some great views.

From what we were told this year, the popularity of the Power Tour has caused a decrease in the number of venues that are big enough to sponsor a stop. Took 45 minutes on Sunday afternoon to get from the outskirts of Racine to the waterfront, but was a hell of a slow cruise to watch!
The rest of the venues had no real issues handling the number of cars. Not sure why they don't go out west again, but heard that the stops were too far apart, whatever that means!

  28. I agree. A trip through Glacier and the Badlands would be fantastic scenery.

2/3 of the US population is in the eastern 1/3 of the country. More potential customers per mile for the vendors than out west. A rumor a few yrs ago was GM wants it in a box..Ga-Tx-Mn-Pa from now on. We've spent way too much time in Corn Country the last few years, the mountains are a blast. Laps @ Bristol Motor Speedway was a blast last year, dissapointed they moved the start from Bristol to Flyspec Iowa
