I'm with it until the dash. Not a no vote, just not visualizing it. Let's hear/see more about that. Looks like a great project either way no matter what.

Look, I'm not trying to be funny or clever, but I suspect you may have fucked up some perfectly good front end parts there.
    Round holes = good.
    Long slots = bad.

I think the engine and the coupe are a awesome and the channeled 60's East coast look is way cool. The wheels are not jiving with me though. I would love to see solid disk 15" wheels on this car and chrome if you can swing it. I think it would set the car off!!

By the way, the engine intake is rad!

    it's your taste ..........!
i love 60's drags ,60's show rods ,60's gasser ...,put all my tastes in a "martini hand shaker" and i built my own RADICAL model A coupe ,that's all i want ,rare original parts or not ,i don't care(and i think really a 32 i-beam and a model A whishbone, are not so rare)

yeah, back to Minnesota in fact. I want a 5-window bad, but if I come home with another car the wife will actually kill me. I can only use the "it followed me home" excuse so many times apparently.

    I don't think it's a question of taste/rare parts, it's a question of strength/safety.

I gotta agree with 19Fordy. The Galaxie dash has got to go. The guage cluster takes half of it up. I'm good with a '60's dash if your going for a 60's theme, but that one doesn't work.

  21. Hate to see that front axle bend into a V-shape and waste the car. It's your build and good luck with that gamble. I would atleast reinforce it, but thats just me.

I think the axle will be OK, I have seen slotted axles used for years and never heard of one failing (doesn't mean they haven't). I will say that most of the ones I have seen used were on drag cars.

    Looks like a good start.

Good luck with the "A" bone! That is a rare find, especially when you say "rust free" and "from Minnesota" in the same paragraph! We didn't invent rusted sheet metal, but we are the Midwest supplier of it!

  27. I think that dash will be badass. The front end looks awesome too. There's only one way to find out if it's gonna work or not. Good job.

For those concerned about the axle, take a Stresstab (or a 6 pack of your favorite) I have a friend that has an axle just like the one pictured. It's been on the front of his Model A couple for at least the last 40 years and this car has got to have over 60-80,000 miles on it in that time. It's Olds powered and has a 4 spd hydro. If you've never been privelaged to drive on Michigan roads let me just say they are amoung the worst in the nation. As always the sheep here just follow the herd and when one steps up and finds fault the rest just fall in line. BAAAAA BAAAAA!!!!!!
Instead of just spouting off lets see examples (pictures required) of failures due to this axle treatment along with the circumstances that led to the failure. Pictures of a 80mph head on collision with a loaded semi don't count.

Those oblong cuts in all the items makes me worry re: structural strength.

Thanks for the info Frank. I would have been concerned about the axle also if you had not spoken up. It's guys like you that keep us on the straight and narrow.:D
