    Hi ,
my club is doing a tour of the US in July/August 2010 and we are looking for any cool car places that are a must see in the San Francisco area

I am also trying to get a contact for Vern Tardell as we hope to visit his shop.
    cheers

Second that so is Coit Tower at night, the city is like an amphatheatre. Just cruising through Golden Gate park and over the Golden Gate bridge is cool.

Up in the North Bay (Wine Country) you should attend the cruise and show. Big time event and they love out of Staters. I'll bet some folks will take you'all in and show you around :)

towards the end of August is the Goodguys show in Pleasanton. used to be a Street Rod event, but now it is 1972 and earlier cars.

  14. Roy Brizio's shop, in South San Francisco is a must see, if you've never been before. Sales Manager, Dave Cattalini, is one of the nicest people in hot rodding to visit with. Plus they are always working on something cool in the shop.

Stalking KIRK! at the Goodguys headquarters in Pleasanton is always fun.

If your on the East Bay, two potential stops you could make are Darrell Hollenbeck's Vintage Color Studio's and Art Himsl's Place. I've been to both and if they're around it's worth it to stop by and say hi.

Take a drive down the peninsula on skyline drive (#35). Eat lunch at Alice's Resturant in Woodside.

Here's the website, including menu and a map:

We can stalk Kirk when he's over here in NZ as he has become a fixture at Americarna. Thats when he's not stalking the sheep here of course. The boy gets a curious grin when confronted by a wooly bummed ewe.

I'd check on tour reservations for Alcatraz way early. Daily attendance is limited. I am not sure what the demand is now, but better to check and reserve now.

Be aware that Sacramento is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) from San Francisco. If you are traveling in or near the morning or evening commute times, travel can be slow.

Take about three days and drive east to Bonneville Salt Flats for at least a day at Speedweek.

  25. I would skip the fishermans warf thing in SF. That is unless your into crowds of tourists and barking sealions. Go up to the mission district and get some killer Mexican food, probably not much of that in your neck of the woods. Angel Island is pretty cool too. It was like the west coasts version of Ellis island. Also in SF bay. Fort point under the golden gate is cool also the whole Presido is awsome. Lots of the coast defense turrets and stuff are still there. Be prepared to cook your balls off going through the desert that time of year. It was 127 farenheight when I stopped in Needles Ca last year. The beer got warm before you could open it. Do the sheep in NZ say "DDAAADDYYY" when KIRK! is around?

Not car related, but there are alot of micro breweries in SF. I enjoyed sampling the brew.

  28. Here's a couple of changes I'd suggest.

Brizio's location is near the San Francisco airport, so it's a great first stop. The Rodders Journal's office are near the airport as well. If your flight lands in the morning on the 28th. I'd suggest doing Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf & the Golden Gate Bridge on that day.

I'd staying the night of the 28th in San Francisco, a ton of great restaurants, something cool is going on every night, it's one of my favorite cities to visit.

If you fly in late on the 28th, spend the 29th seeing Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf & The Golden Gate Bridge. Or drive south to see the Winchester House and Gambino Customs in San Jose.

Either way I'd stay the night of the 29th staying in Pleasanton, it puts you about 20 minutes south of the Blackhawk Car Museum in Danville, near Arlen Ness' shop in Dublin, and the Goodguys Headquarters in Pleasanton. Then your already be on the East Bay and all you have to do is take I-680 to I-80 to get to Sacramento, plus you'd miss sitting in Friday traffic in San Francisco, on the Bay Bridge and in Oakland on your way to Sacramento.

    Hope that helps out.
