I was supposed to attend a Panel Jam at Sulpys in Ledgewood, NJ a few weeks ago. Due to my step-Dads failing health, I chose not to go. I contacted Unkl Ian and asked him if I sent my longboard up, could I get him to have someone do a little striping on it. I hated to impose, but I thought that this would help me feel as though I hadnt missed the Jam completely. As it turns out, the Saturday of the Jam was one of the nicest days I have ever shared with my step-Dad. He passed this past Thursday and it was just his time. Im glad that I stayed home, but I want to send along my sincere thanks and appreciation to the pinstriping family for their thoughtfulness. Ive added photos of the striping they did on my board. I especially wish to thank Unkl Ian Griffith, Joe Sulpy Sr., Joe Sulpy Jr., Alan Johnson, Clay White & Ralph Hancox (and Rebecca Sulpy for packing the board and returning it to me). I also want to thank Ray ElVago Smith for the BEAUTIFUL panel that he sent along for me by Ralph. My wife & Mom both like it much better than the skateboard! I havent been involved with pinstriping that long, but in a short time, I have made some fantastic friends. I hope everyone has some idea just how much this show of kindness means to me and I look forward to thanking each of you in person somewhere down the road. Be well & God bless, Pat http://www.weirdtrip.com/shots/LB1.JPG http://www.weirdtrip.com/shots/LB2.JPG http://www.weirdtrip.com/shots/LB3.JPG http://www.weirdtrip.com/shots/LB4.JPG You'll note that the wheels are brand new. They are Kryptonics "Krypto-Hawaii" wheels I bought at Town & Country Surf Shop when we were in Hawaii. Hope to scuff them up soon. I can still cruise, but DAMN! it hurts when I go boom......
thanks for the story...I bet your step dad appreciated your time....here's a little paint I put down this week to take out to Sherman Dennison...I'm going for that "I need a toilet seat" crowd.....
and a mirror I'm taking as well. This ought to make any bachelor pad complete or piss of some poor dude's wife....
Very cool story. There are a whole lot more good folks in the world than bad. The only thing I got done this week is this self portrait. Notice the gray hair.lol
I'm thinking about trying my hand at striping. I'm an artist myself but have never tried striping before, although I do have a steady hand. My good friend and 80's glam rock icon, Rikki Rockett or Poison fame is a great striper. Have you guys ever met him? He's one of the nicest people I know. He stripes toilet seats while he's on tour and recently had a Von Dutch show. I was told that I should practice on glass. What are your favorite paints and where do you get your striping supplies? Stacey
Hey, I haven't been around in a while, new job and averything, but heres the model project I just finished. It started out as a butt ugly AMC Matador... PhotoShop Courtesy of Roy Sorenson http://royrsorenson.tripod.com/deli.html )
AG/Stacey......what type of artwork do you do currently? Have anything you can post for this weeks show?
Hey Action Girl, pinstriping comes up all the time on the HAMB. You need Mack brushes and One Shot sign paint (Eastwood has everything). Good luck.
A quick concept doodle I did a couple days ago for my newest project... (Timely Halloween theme included for fun!!)
Our condolences go out to you and your family Pat.I am happy that you got a chance to spend some quality time with him before his passing. Ray and Kyd Smith
Pat, I'm very sorry to hear of of the loss of your step-dad but glad you were able to spend some quality time with him before his passing. Condolences to your whole family. Major kudo's to Unkl Ian and the rest of the folks for their thoughtfulness. Makes a tough time in your life alittle more bearable.
Acouple of things I've done recently:The first is a creeper I bought at a yard sale for $2.00.Not in very good shape but good enough to stripe. Next is a metal tool box about 3'long similar to a carpenter's box with tray. Also $2.00.Scuffed it a bit, threw some Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer on it ans squirted it with Hammertone Silver. The name is self-explanatory.
I don't really consider myself a artist but I do some little projects from time to time with my brother here on the HAMB (spookyjay13).
Just thought I would actually post some stuff this week...nothing car related -- however, this is only because I haven't had the opportunity (anybody want their car photographed?). All of it is black and white because I've been too lazy to scan any of my new colour stuff...maybe I'll get around to it this week. Some is for school, some personal...let me know what you think. P.S. Rare images of hightest enclosed!!! http://photo.starblvd.net/MissMollyShotgun ~Molly
Pat, like everyone else, I'm sorry to hear the news. Molly, I like your photos, thanks for sharing. I have nothing to post on here this week, except the sodapopping I've done for a few requests here. I kinda like how the butterscotch paint came out on this, so maybe ill post that again. Great work by all as usual this week!
Well, been pretty busy this week...no time really to draw or paint anything worthwhile......I did get an hour to mess around this afternoon while I was wait'in for client approval on a board job I like kandied kolored koke girls......"fly me to the moon"......
Skatefink, sorry to hear about your step-dad. Glad you got to spend some quality time with him, though. I can't remember if I posted this pic already, or not. If I did...sorry for the repeat. Maybe I SHOULD wear a mask ALL the time when I spray One Shot. "One Vice Atta Time"
SKATE FINK/ Sorry to hear about your dad.....very tuff....I had to go thru that aspect of life with my father a few years back I dug thru some stuff and found some line and color stuff.....
