Trying to finalize the exhaust system on my SBF into an Austin-Healey 3000 build. System so far is Sunbeam Tiger cast iron manifods/ 2 1/4" pipes to two Spintech Cruiser 2 1/4" muffs located one under each seat. The question is where to go from there. The standard exhaust for the six cylinder has two pipes on a split manifold that exit on one side of the rear, like this: Most V8 swappers bring one pipe out to either side of the rear, like this: For reasons of looks only, I'm thinking of bringing both pipes out to the back and crossing one over at the rear to join the other side to give the twin pipe look of the original. That would make one pipe about 2 1/2 ft longer than the other. Is this going to cause any issues in engine function. If there's room for an H pipe, would that help? BTW, I'm not interested in doing side pipes or dump in front of the rear wheels.
you will be just fine with the twin pipes out one side in the back. i like that look. an H pipe that far back probably wouldn't do much good
Equal length tuned pipes are only important if you want the absolute maximum HP at high RPM. Unequal length pipes will generally increase low end torque which is much more useful in daily driving.
Hyukyuk! I still like the idea. I had an MG with headers that used to keep my feet nice and toasty. Nice in the winter, a little uncomfortable in summer.
