Was having a problem getting my hood to latch and finally got it to hold by altering the way I closed it--not by altering the mechanicals. Now it seems I can't get it to release. Release cable seems fine and feels like it pulls to the stop. I thought I could reach the latch by coming up from the bottom, but the bottom panel that directs air through the radiator is blocking my access. It is fixed by fasteners that must have been installed from the top with the hood open. I can't get a wrench on both sides of the fasteners to remove the panel. I suppose I could cut the panel if absolutely necessary. There is a '46 coupe about 30 miles away that I could look at on Monday for clues, but had hoped to have it open tomorrow when a friend comes to see the car.

Anyone with experience that might keep me from making scratches or dents in the hood/fenders in the process of getting it open?

Have you tried pushing down or to the side on the hood while someone pulls the cable for you? Might work...hope you solve the problem without too much h***le. Let us know what happens.
