Do California ***les have the ch***is or VIN number recorded on them?

Ch***is and vin # should be the same on a '34 pu and should be what's on the ***le, BUT a lot of states used and engine # at that time, up until the late 40's, early 50's. Does the ***le match the # on the ch***is is the most important question to ask.
In a lot of cases they won't match, for various reasons. sometimes states ***igned VINs due to that confusion, and changes over the years. Chances that a vehicle that is now California ***led originally came from California are slim. If you like the vehicle, and want it, an easy way to ensure it will get through inspection is using a 1951 Ford F1 cowl tag. It has a place for the VIN on the ***le to be engraved, and fits the cowl patent plate holes on a '34. Just my .02

In California a 34 would have the ch***is number as the VIN number which is on the ***le. California did not use engine numbers on ***les except for motorcycles which have both frame and engne numbers

 

But, you have a pretty good chance in 76 years that the '34 has come from another state or has been ***embled from several rigs, possibly from another country even, and lots of other states used motor number. An original California vehicle yes possibly. But if ***le was lost, then re***igned, or another ***le bought, which often happens - the VIN number doesn't match anything on the vehicle - which is more often than not the case. Not trying to argue - but the point is just because it is in a particular state NOW, doesn't mean the vin matches the ***le.

I have personally encountered numerous sportscars that were ***led in California using their engine number when new. It is not uncommon to find an old Porsche or Triumph sports car that has been ***led using the engine number and now after an engine change is without any legal number left on the car.
Also Harleys before 1970 only had an engine number an no frame number
