what is good/bad about being a professional welder

    I would like to become a professional welder, and I'd like the opinions and views of welders, their wives, or anyone who knows the bad/good about being a welder. Thanks

    Good money, rewarding for hard work.... not healthy

    I think that was more true in the old days and is still a concern but with all the awareness and protection devices( respirators, goggles,and clothing ) that may be minimized. The first guy I worked for did not even ask or require any one to even wear saftey glasses. If your a welder in Texas plan on getting Hot because of the long clothing required to protect your skin for "Ultra Violent" Rays.
