I'm building a 63 Mercury Marauder. I'm shooting for a certain era, but I need some research materials. I'm trying to get between Watson's Vino Paisano/Mox Miller's Impala and the lowriders in Howard Gribble's flickr album. So, 65/66-ish. Which magazines had the best "custom" coverage? I want to pick some old rags up at Pomona and such, what should I look for.

i mainly buaght car craft but i was going for 59-63, if you just want to do research you can buy magazines with ripped covers and stuff and read the how to articles in the shed with dirty hands, i got some on ebay for 99c in fair condition but most magazines i bought on ebay were $5-$6

Check out Popular Customs from that period. As the name suggests, they focus on customs.

  5. I would recommend the Andy Southard books. Can buy 'em used for less than cost of a handful of old mags and get many, many more good custom photos.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't care if they're mint, I intend to use them, even cut them up and hang them in the garage for inspiration. Goober, I will have to keep an eye out for those books too. Thanks man.
