Here it is...this is my 56' chevy given to me a few months back by my dad. The car had been sitting in the garage for 10 years before I asked my boss, Red, if he would help me get it running one day. My dad dropped a 327 in it, still keeping the stock motor and trans in the garage. After getting it running I have run into nothing but problems so one day I decided to pull the motor and start over. I'm putting a 350 crate motor in it with all new parts. Under the hood of the car will be brand new but the outside is staying stock, the one thing I plan on doing is dropping the car to the ground.
The only car my Dad ever gave me was a non-running Vega Keep updating with pics! That is going to turn out real nice. For inspiration on how it could look, check out Riksters page.Look through the Larry Watson album. http://www.rikhovingkustoms.com/RHK1/LarryWatson.html
That is a good looking car already. You're going to have fun putting it back on the road and even more fun driving it knowing that you are the reason it is driveable. Keep us updated with the progress.
Very nice ride.Four doors are great everybody will think you have friends. There is a twin to that car here in tucson its a 2 owner car and I would love to park it next to my other 56 in my shop.keep us posted
Looks like you have one that was well taken care of.I have a suggestion for you. When you start to drop it,get the dropped spindles with the disc brake mounts so you can have better brakes. These old Chevys look good but the stock brakes aren't the best. I have had mine 13 years and still not finished with it.
Nice car for a young guy to have. I have a soft spot for 56's. Keep us updated on your progress. Randy
Love the way the car looks now, it sounds like you are takeing the car in the right direction, and it sounds like you have the right help keep us posted.
You're doin' the right thing there! I did the same thing to mine a couple years ago, its been back on the road just over a year now. Total dis***embly, converted to discs, basically everything new, rebuilt, or re-painted from the firewall forward. Moved the battery to the trunk too. Sure runs good now. Your headers look the same as mine too. Enjoy the photos!
we need to clear a space in the shop and get to work on the 56. Not too long to wait though. by the way welcome to the hamb. RED
