Bingo. The coil and the capacitor tune it to the right frequency.

Not sure if i'll put it on ebay (i'll let u know first before i do), i'd still like to figure out what it is. It's definitely aftermarket because of the wiring that is hooked up to it. It might be the garage door opener? who knows.

The big capacitor is probably for the plate power supply....but the coil sure gives away as being a radio thingy

  5. Tweakers: you may never know what the original idea behind it was, although I'm sure it was "crystal" clear to them at the time!:D

Did you ever trace where the wires end up inside? Also, if you can tell us the numbers on the side of the tube (like 12AX7) that would be helpful.

I would expect some connection to an antenna if it were a garage door opener, and its not clear why there would be a transformer for a DC system. Does look rather homemade tho.

Yes, there will be some provision for an antenna in case it was a door opener or remote starter.

That coil and capacitor are probably an indication of a tuned circuit, so then it is AC and hence the transformer. Without knowing what is underneath that box or mounted elsewhere it is hard to know everything that was intended.

RDR has a point - you might want to ask your wife or GF to start that car for you from now on......................

  10. Its a flux capacitor. Necessary for time travel.

Your box has all the things needed for a vibrator type power supply for tube radios.

WOW!!! I miss Crystal Pepsi... I remember walking to the store as a kid for one. And the TV commercial with Van Haggars "Right Now".. A bit O/T but good memories.

    Great bring back Cyclone!!!

I think you are all on the wrong track. It is obviously some type of device used to communicate with extra terrestrials orbiting around the Earth.

After you get it to 88 miles an hour, dynomite the brakes and hit the button, and the garage door will go up. Yup, that's what they looked like before modern electronics. It should have a cover on it.

It looks like the lost Tesla box. See if you can drive for day's without any gas. Which direction are you going to go so we can look for you on the roadside if it doesn't work?

A coil, a transistor and a capacitor. Audio related for sure.

A transistor? surely you are kidding. I guess some youngsters have never seen a vacuum tube.
