Damnnnnnn PakRat that's a beautiful job you've done on that "53". Im building about to build one myself, and i cant tell you how many people make comments on how its an ugly car "what do you wanna build one of those for". "Leave it for the lowriders". Theres just somthing about the car that screams custom! Even when its just sitting. Iv got big plans for it, (im not a poser, but some which youve done to yours iv got in mind also) Gotta be chopped, pillarless, extended quarters with tube frenched taillights, decked, and sporting a crazy metalflake interior. PakRat, once again thats an awsome job youve done!

I see alot of attention to detail. Obviously a labor of love. Looks fucking great. Bob

I've decided to leave the hood alone. I like the way the peak looks without anything to distract the eye.
I will more than likely have something done on the deck lid though.

Something to consider...have it striped in a color similar to the body color, but a shade or two darker or lighter...that way you keep the nice clean lines but when people get right up to the car they get a little "bonus surprise" with the subtle striping. Or not...it looks GREAT as is!! [IMG]

Stupid people has been a concern of mine since the first coat of clear.
I WILL drive this...but i'm gonna pay a little closer attention to where i park/leave it..(at least for a while til it gets a few road scars.)
Even though you can't stop fait..

sad part is, the last 2 cars i built that had shiny paint i was the one to scratch or chip them first...

    LOL
Been there done that and it's no fun..

It'll be driven for sure. One of the things i was looking at with this car is something more comfortable than my pick up.
I can pack a bunch of shit in the trunk, and ride in comfort where ever we go..as dumb as it sounds, i'm actually excited about that..
I've had to shoehorn myself in the truck the past few years.. [IMG]

    No power parking either.. [IMG]
I was refering more to parking lot's, hotels etc..
Just about all the show's we go to we have a half dosen of our own cars in one place, if not more, so show's arn't really a concern for me.

BARNETT, I was thinking white only to keep with the old style striping i've seen in the old mags. It seemed like many stripes were very opposite of the body color..
BUT, i do like your idea.
It's something i hadn't thought of, but may prove to be a nice touch.
    Thanks.

    Tony.

Tony, what about ghost pinstriping? It would be just like ghost flames, ya look a certain way you see it, another you don't. I don't know if this is possible or not, how about it Barnett, ray, unkl Ian, is this possible? later plmczy

Thats a real cool idea..my only concern is i wanna keep it as period correct as i can..not sure if that style would work with that in mind..
I'm thinking a similar color to the body, only darker like BARNETT suggested.
That would be pretty much hidden from a short distance, yet show when you came up on the car.

I gotta talk to my friend thats gonna stripe it and see what he thinks.

Looks great Tony. I can't believe you water sanded and wheeled the car out that fast. There's a whole lot of body there. Once the trim starts going back on, it's really going to show off the shine.

Great color! I'd been admiring a similar color on the BMW K1200 GT. They call it Palomino Red... Looks even better on that acreage of sheet metal.

Yeah that would be cool. Then they would start looking for other little details that's incorperated into the car. The white interior you have planned for it will really stand out with that color. later plmczy

  20. WHEW! Glad I'm back on the HAMB after a two week computer crash.

I see I'm just in time to check out PakRat's new paint.

Man, the car and paint looks AWESOME, Congraulations!

About stripin' it? I noticed in Andy Southards '50's book he and many others seemed to stripe everything in white on dark colors. I really dig ya wanting to keep it 'period perfect". I would take a look at the book for ideas and also consider Barnett's thoughts.

One thing I KNOW for sure, that bad boy will not need much.

Good luck, can't wait to see more pics.

How about black and white pinstriping on the deck? It's old school but really pops on a rich color like that. Nice paintjob man! I've been wanting to get mine painted for a couple years, but other stuff keeps coming up. Guess I better get to work.

I never used to look at these thing's years ago. My bro in law, Dat Dirty Rat, owned this one a few years back.
I thought it was a cool car when he had it, but admitted it wasn't my style.

It wasn't until after he started showing me a lot of these things done up that i began to like them.
One of my all time favorite's is a friend's 49..chopped, flat black and flamed..
It was Dat Dirty Rat, our friends 49, and RF's chevy that gave me a lot of inspiration to do this one.

When his old car came up for sale, i thought it would be a perfect car to customize, being it was 'in the family' before.
Now i can honestly say i love the thing. I'm also paying a LOT more attention to them when i see 'em.

I am really proud of this thing, probably too much..i'm by far NOT a body or paint guy.
    I'm more of a mechanical person..motor's etc.
guess i'm a little over excited with this, at least for now..

    Thanks a lot..

And that hood was a BITCH! LOL

Well, you ought to be proud Tony. I've been in, out and around the restoration/body shop business for 27 years (since I was 10) and have more than a few paint jobs under my belt. Your body work on this car is pretty much spot on. The prep work was very good and the final paint job shows it. You may be a wrench by day but your certainly more than able to straighten out and shine up a few panels at night if you had to.

I know what its like to shoot a car alone. Its tough to watch the shop conditions, watch the material coverage, watch for problems and to adjust along the way to deal with problems all alone....let alone for a first time over-all paint job. This car was not an easy shoot...at all, but you pulled it off quite nicely. Once I seen that Billy was under the weather I knew I was in for the duration. I was more than happy to be there to help out, coach you along, and mix paint to keep you rolling on that all-nighter. It was a blast for me. You did very well on this job. I'm proud ya man. You did good.

.....now go get that trim on the car, OK????
