So named by my buddies, because I'm not going with a straight axle. Instead I'm going to use ball joint spacers, and bigger springs. Here's what I'm starting with. Yes I know the rims suck, hope to fix that soon.

The new spring next to the stock size spring.
    Spacer installed
    [IMG]
Now it has some space above the tire!
    Some ladder bars I've started.

The moon style tank I made. Yes,No,Maybe.
Two scoops I made, and an old velcity stack. Don't know if I realy like any of them. If I run one of them, I'll run with no hood.

The seat, yes there will be two.

Still a long way to go, but its a start. Sorry i can't get any full shot of the car, garage is to full. With any luck, I'll be able to roll her outside soon, to get some good pictures.

I do have one question, does anyone know what transmission this is? If so is it worth using?

The wheels arent that bad, flat caps are good. At least they are not 90's 5 star mullet wheels. Ive thought of going that route with tri 5 too if the car was too original to cut up the frame for for gasser front. I want to know how it handles

Not all gassers had striaght axle front-ends. You tranny is a saginaw. It won't live if you drive it like a gasser.

Lookin' Good so far. May need a taller front spring?
Put two carbs on that intake...(find two)
Them old cars look good fixed up right.
My brother has 4 - 5 of these...

  11. Should be a blast. Like the bars for the rear and 1st scoop myself. But if you take the hood off I would put 2 carbs on it.

Um...do not use that saginaw. They were used behind 4 bangers and weak 6's. Rated at no more than 250 ft.lbs....

I broke 5, split them open like a can of sardines. Each one broke shifting from 1st to 2cnd.

Of course I broke a super t-10 with the same small block next.

If you play nice with it and I don't think you will, it would be fine.:D

I can't see how many ring grooves are in the input shaft. Each ring designates the gear ratio.

They have anywhere from 0-3 grooves if I remember right. The gear splits are from very low first to a real close split from first to fourth.

I'm also keeping the stock front suspension on my '57 gasser. It'll be an actual racer, too--12 point cage, slicks, etc.
I put in 6 cylinder springs, fiberglass fenders, no bumper, no inner fenders and fiberglass doors. It sits plenty high up front without all that extra weight!

  14. looks cool from here
ive got a falcon with ball joint spacers and tall springs
everybody thinks its an axle car until they look underneath and go
" hey i thought this had a straight axle on it"

I'm also starting on mine in the spring. I dig the single carb tunnel ram look. I had one on a stock car project that I built, I was told that it was called a " Loaf of bread" intake by the top shape. Mine was an Edelbrock, that's what I will use for mine. I think the ladder bars look good too, did you make them? Try to keep with the vintage look......:)

  18. Good Build. I like it! Not everyone goes with a straight axel....

Thisun belongs to a friend. Dig them spindles, it was done that way back in the 60's. I think it's 2 spindles made into ONE. we dont know who did it, but it was drag raced like this for many years.

the lifted front look is pretty sweet too. i guess it would be different to not use a straight axle and do what you are doing, i really like it.

somewhere, the member may be here, i've seen a '62 Chevy Biscayne with the front lifted pretty high on stock suspension. the car is blue and primered? it has what looks like extended lowers that are drilled. looks cooler in my opinion than if the car was running a straight axle and parallel leafs.

Wheels ain't bad. No need for axle unless you want to. Spindles and springs will work fine. I like clean a and simple sleeper look too. No point in giving away to much info on first glance. Nice pile o parts :)

Thanks for all the comments, hope to get this one on the road soon. I've had her for a long time. Busted my ass on it when I first got her, but then life got in the way. Now I've decided, I'm going to get it done come hell or high water. Thanks again all.

springs up front arent bad. thats the way things were done from what i understand in the mid-late 60's when people started to experiment away from straight axles....but dont quote me on it

i dig the car. dont like the velocity stack or the scoop though. you oughta do something like on the '55 chevy from two lane blacktop lol

Do you have brakes up front or did you remove them? I'm definitely a Torq Thrust fan now, what size are the fronts? I wanted spindlemount for my Henry, but might go this route so I can actually run some sort of brake up front for street use.
