Typing in all caps is generally seen as yelling. You may want to learn to use your caps key.

There are multiple sources of dropped axles for these trucks. I think Sid at http://www.droppedaxles.com/ is probably your best bet.

Rusty, firstly welcome....Give them a phone call, Sids axles are generally considered to be pretty good.
There's quite a few guys over on the Stovebolt forum have used him and have nothing but praise.
You could also talk to these guys.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=132
    See ya there!

Call him or email him. Or find him here on the HAMB and PM him. I've not bought one of his axles but when I asked him questions he was very quick to answer, and both his answers and his prices seemed reasonable.

Sid's axles are in high demand, so there may be a waiting period. I ordered my 4" dropped axle in late October and he still hasn't got to it yet. I'm not worried though as I'd rather give my money to a Hamber.

Do you intend on keeping the front end stock? Some guys are converting from ends or switching the frame to s10's. I did this to my 54 and used 2inch drop spindles. The front sits about 3-4 inchs off the floor.

Several questions involved but first hit the edit ****on and get rid of the caps. On this board that is considered shouting and isn't appreciated by the m***es.

If you want to keep the or an I beam you can go with the suggested or other dropped axle and or a different front spring that will help drop the truck.
Lower profile tires help bring it down in front too.

There are also any number of Mustang II style crossmembers and suspensions to drop it to ground level and improve the ride along with the S-10 frame swap or stub frame swap.

In the past I had a 67/9 Camaro style subframe under my 48 and it sat low and drove like a slot car but they are a bit of work to get right. This time around I'm going to a Welders series crossmember and stock Mustang II suspension pieces but I'm not running wide tires this time.
There are simple bolt on Mustang II style crossmembers that only take a tape measure, half inch drill and bits and handful of wrenches to install. The initial cost appears spendy but anyone who can measure with a tape measure and mark and drill a hole can install it.
This is with the Camaro stub and I believe a coil cut out of the front springs

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply (even though I used caps, it wont happen again). Sounds like Sids is the way to go as I definatly want to keep the solid axle up front.

Speedway, CPP, and CenPen have dropped tube axles.

I believe Sids is the cheapest, but you have to ship him your axle.

Only after you receive his dropped axle. It's a core charge system.

Your dropped axle ? has been answered. That being said Durant makes dropped mono-leaf springs for these trucks also. If you use them in combination it may get you even lower! Which is always a good thing.

I love low also but I heard you can get bad bump steer if you use drop axle and lowered springs, any truth?

sids is the way I would go if I had it to do all over. The speedway dropped axle for your truck requires 55-59 spindles that they don't tell you in the ad!

You can eliminate bump steer by leveling your drag link with the tie rod to the original height. Same theory as lifting my jeep, by using a dropped steering arm or a Z bar to the spindle, to meet he original angle of approach.

I got a dropped axle and lowered front leaf springs, both from Speedway. Both just bolt right in. Simple enough and lowered my truck 6". You gotta have a little knowledge and be able to put your old spindles on the new axle and weld on shock mounts but that's about it.

You also will have to make a new tie rod.

I have one of Sid's axles on my truck and it's a very nice piece of workmanship. The cost was reasonable, as was shipping. He's a great guy to deal with on the phone. I found that what he says is just what he does......No BS.
I bought a 3" because this is my every day truck, rain/shine/mud/snow, gravel/pavement...... Plus I thought it pretty important to keep a mimimum scrub line.

The axles are $300 to drop yours. If you don't have a core cores are $50. The prices are on the web site under the picture and discription. Here is a link to install the axles in the AD Chevy Pickup. http://droppedaxles.com/TECH_ARTICLES.html#TXTOBJ7D9416E352E1C51
