This is a basic idea of what my '56 Plymouth is going to look like. I have put together some ideas for paint schemes/colors, but thought I'd see what you guys could come up with. Keep in mind, I probably won't paint it black, etc, as I live on a dirt road. Thanks in advance for any ideas. [IMG] [IMG]

White body, blue/red pinstripe's. White painted brake drum's,******* bar's. Blue tint/plexi window's. Black bucket seat's, 4-point roll bar. Old Sun tach, gauge's. U.S. stars' and bar center cap's for alum. slot's. '60's-70's MOPAR bolt on goodie's. 413, log ram intake would be cool. Making that steel front end 'tilt' would be a step into past. No back seat, a thin sheet of wood with some monster sub's cranking out Whole Lotta Love! Or Gun's and Rose's Pretty Tied Up!!

I've got a 440 being slowly put together for this car, witha TF727. ******* bars are already in stock, ready for installation. The four-post cage & buckets are already in the works, too, (I work part-time at a race-car fab shop). No Plexi, or wild colored tint, as this will be my daily (only) driver. I have an old RAC tach with the parchment-colored face, so I'm getting a lot of parts collected. I have a couple projects to finish for other people, then I'll have the cash and time to get seriously busy on the Plymouth. I'm just trying to get a firm idea about the paint. If I just go into the booth without a plan, it's hard telling what would happen! But, if I do, I'm sure it'll be cool, just don't know what to expect until it's done. [IMG]

Robert Genat's "Vintage & Historic Drag Racers" shows several late '50's-early'60's stock-bodied cars. They were all either white or a relatively plain (beige, red, light blue) stock color.

Hand-painted cl*** and sponsorship names and period-correct stickers and complete the theme.

I've actually toyed with the idea of platinum, bright silver/gunmetal in fades, two-tones, etc. I really like the new Mopar platinum heavy metallic.

I'm surprised there haven't been very many opinions on this. But that probably shouldn't be the case, as everyone knows there aren't any opinionated people on the HAMB. [IMG]

PLEEEEEEZE, somebody, give me some ideas. I've been doing high-tech, pearl, prism flake, etc. paint on bikes, trikes, and race cars for so long, I can't get past this block in my head to come up with a trad, but colorful, paint scheme for my Plymouth. I sure would appreciate any suggestions/ ideas.

Looks like you're going for that street g***er thing. To get that mid sixties drag warrior look gotta go with compe***ion yellow. Black, narrow tuck n roll, add some old speed shop decals and contingency stickers and there ya go. Don't screw it up with flames, scallops or ornate rockerbilly pinstriping. With that stance, no front bumper, hood scoop style it looks like your trying for the weight transfer era of drag racing. 1960-64? I can see a little striping on the dash and maybe the firewall but do it comp yellow, chrome and black with the black only being the rubber and interior. I dig the car. it's rare to see the street racer look done with taste and restraint.

That's what I'm going for, CP. I just have such a hard time painting anything one color! I tell people it'll cost 'em extra to paint their stuff one color, as it's so boring to paint. LOL But, in this case, I think it could well be the way to go. If I can just make myself stop after one color.... Oh, yeah, the black pleated interior and carpet are already in the works. No headliner, and I don't want to remove the rear window to install a new one, so I plan on just putting some of that aluminum coated heat shield stuff on the roof. It's going to be pretty spartan. Thanks for the input! [IMG]

Yeah, I'm starting to get the vibe....bright-*** retina-searing yellow, period. That would definitely be a departure for me, and would give the '56 some at***ude in a 60's kinda way.

At one point, I'd even thought of a real period paint scheme.....Lime Fire metalflake on the whole thing! I finally decided that, as much fun as that would be for a while, I couldn't live with looking at my hood that color for very long. [IMG] LOL

I'm afraid of the "burn-out" factor, too. Looking at any bright-***ed color every day might get old. I'm also toying with the idea of a satin black hood or at least stripes on the hood to save the retinas (similar to late-sixties Mopars)

I thought I'd bring this up to the top once more, in the hopes that someone else might give me their opinion (as much as it pains HAMBers to voice an opinion [IMG]) on colors, etc. If not, thanks to those who replied. I appreciate getting feedback from people I don't talk to every day. The fresh perspective makes me think. (OWWWwwww)
