I thought it was cool, found it at a resale shop for $15. Couldn't pass it up, it has room for everything!!! It's large, 18" x 9" x 14"... I think I'll letter up on the outside and load it with all my stuff!!!

  10. Nice score Chad! Those boxes make ideal pinstriping kits;just add a couple of shelves as required. As for lettering on that surface:be careful of your paint consistency.I've done similar surfaces and if you get it too thin,it will wander down inside the crevices.Experiment a bit to get the proper paint consistency.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  11. I've had a similar box for nearly thirty years. Got it from a neighbor who was a retired TV guy. Mine has a deeper bottom and shorter top sections but still has the same basic construction. I could hold two layers of 1/2 pint OneShot cans in the bottom and brushes. pounce wheels, Stabilos, mahl sticks, etc in the upper parts.

    Can't beat 'em. Nice score!

    Thanks guys!!

Thanks safariknut, I was thinking the same thing, but the grain is really shallow so i might not thin it at all and see how it goes?

They wanted $25 but I offered $15 cause I really only wanted to pay $10!! :D

Nice box...I've seen that type of stuff used before by pinstripers and they seem to work great. I'm still using ammo boxes but need something larger.

  15. Looks very similar in construction to some of the old sign kits, probably made by the same people. Should work good as long as there's nothing spillable in the upper compartments. But I'd have a hard time covering up the old lettering on it. I'd at least leave the "Best For COLOR" part on it.

Stumbled onto this old sign kit some years ago that apparently belonged to a glass gilder. Still pretty well equipped with brushes, pounce bag, grease pencils, razor blades, aluminum powder, gilder's tips, gelatin capsules and a used cake of Bon-Ami. Everything but the goldleaf!

By the way, what kind of wine are you drinkin' there with BBQ Pringles?:D

  16. Ok guys I am going to build myself a machinist tool box for my drawing tools. What would the perfect strippers box be? Size, number and size of drawers etc... I want to make one for a longtime stripper and friend of mine so I really want it to come from strippers. I have included a picture of a machinist for those of you who might not know.

Now thats a cool looking striping box!

  20. Beautiful old kit! I have a couple of early sign kits from the 1920's and they had pretty much the same equipment in them. One of them came from the Toledo area(got it from the guy's grandson in trade for a stripe job)and the other from the West Coast.Wish I knew the history on the latter.

  21. I just had a flashback of seeing a sign painter that would come to town when I was a kid. I would sit and watch him paint signs for locals and be romanced by the smell of the paint and his talent. He used the stick/ball to balance on as he brushed things and it really fascinated me. Cool score on the vintage box!! Being in the vintage business I have a fetish for old industrial cases and vintage suitcases. ~Sololobo~

  22. Here's a couple of vintage suitcases I did up:All are sold except the last one.

The perfect stripper's box.... a bit NSFW, don't you think?

Strippers peel their clothes off for dough, STRIPERS (only one 'p') paint.

I'd imagine you could make a pretty nice one out of an ammo box if you've got one laying around. I've been using an old wooden crate from an Orange company, but I don't take my brushes traveling.

  24. I figured that I would take the best ideas from everyone and go from there. Heck I be from Ga everyone knows we cant spell.

    very nice work!

  29. That's a couple of fine looking kits you've got there, too! Especially the Watson kit. We're probably lookin' at what, about $1500 worth of brushes there?

Nice job on the suitcases as well. There's probably not an old suitcase in a thrift store within a 10 mile radius of you now. LOL at the "dead squirrel parts" reference!:D That's going to be part of my excuse the next time one of my lettering or striping attempts runs off the rails.

"Geez, I'm pushing paint around with dead squirrel parts tied to the end of a stick! What did you expect?"
