New Jersey's own Circus Drive-In_ Wall Township. The real deal, unchanged since 1954...last of its kind...

    Hello,

This is my first post, so I hope that I'm doing everything correctly.
The first photo is of an old motel west of Indianapolis. It has been abandoned since the late 1960's/ early 1970's. The motel building (visible in the background, assuming the photo is large enough to see) is very decayed. The sign isn't too much better.
The second photo is a scan of an old postcard of the same motel and sign.

This part of the country and the PHX area specifically is full of great old signs. An old high school in Mesa or Tempe has neon jack rabbits lighting one after another with the rabbit in different running positions. Super cool stuff. I photo them for inspiration and sign painting ideas.

Lots of artists paint these signs in scenes. Their prints are very popular. One of the best original artists in this genre is Red Rohall. He does not put cars in his scenes, just the buildings and signs themselves. Some or inspired by actual signs. Some are his own creations. He travels what is left of Route 66 taking photos for his art. Check him out or search him up. I have one of his originals.

Hard to see, the first is the side of Grand Spaulding Dodge, says Ramchargers, Sportsmans, Pick-Ups. the second is a drive in that still exists.
