Complete scam....had the exact same wording in a guy who tried to buy some parts from me off Craigslist. In mine, though, he actually referenced the part name. I was able to see it right off the bad, so I f--ked with his brain for awhile for some fun.....the told him to go screw himself. They've done exposes on these Nigerian guys....they think that they deserve the money they're scamming, because Americans are "rich" and they're poor. Sound familiar? Anyway, there's a whole counter-culture devoted to scamming the scammers, and you get points from having them send you stuff.

  6. I agree completely with the others and have actually had one of those bogus checks sent to me. I had an 87 Monte SS for sale on craigslist a couple years ago. Got the standard "Now that I have committed to buy your item" email and responded with please feel free to go **** yourself. So the next thing I get is an email asking for my name & address so he can have his brother who "lives in NH" come look the car over and pay me cash. Ok cool. What can that hurt so I give him the info. 2 weels later I get a certified bank check for $4000 more than I'm asking for the car. He wants me to take out my asking price plus an extra $1000 for my trouble and send a check for the other 3k to his "shipping company"... I took the check to my friend at the local bank and begged her to tell me it was real but she shook her head and said sorry... not my lucky day. I turned the check over to her so she could send it to the fraud department and that was the end of it. I later sold the car on Ebay and got more than I was asking from a legitimate buyer. A good tip if you suspect this **** is to simply ask for a phone number, address, etc. and then check it out. Make sure the phone number is a US area code & verify it matches the address or it's most likely a scam. On the flip side I have a guy I know who bought a hotrod on Ebay a couple years ago that was halfway across the country from here. He asked for additional pics and asked questions before bidding and got responses to his requests. So he won the auction and sent his money. Turned out there was no car and the US address he sent the check to was a mail forwarding company that sent the check along to the scammer in another country. When he realized he'd been had & called the cops in the town he sent the money to they told him there was nothing they could do and to kiss the money goodbye... If I remember correctly it was around 10k. Be careful out there. It's a freakin zoo...

I've done cars and parts both ways on EBAY. My one rule "CASH is KING" When I get real CASH on my terms - then I have a deal.

This is the oldest internet scam on the books. Where have you been?
I can't believe this is still going on and people are still falling for it.

Just my idea - but I don't ever allow shipping outside the US when I list on Ebay. Plenty of buyers here; I don't need international BS.

I am glad you posted this, this kind of fraud and deceit unfortunately does exist. Many on here have experienced the same type of scam, including myself (red flags immediately went off). Report non-compliance of terms to Fee-Bay, leave negative feedback, contact other bidders, to try and salvage a legitimate sales out of this. Be thankfull you had the instinct to ask, and that you learned a valuable lesson.

    Simple answer to your question.........YES!!!!!!!!!!
He can hook up with PayPal almost as quickly as he can go out and get a money order, if he really wanted to.98% of ebay sellers require PayPal.
