There is a page in the Wescott catalogue that states the 32 grill shell will fit a 31 model A hood with no modification. Can anyone tell me is this information correct?
I dont think so. The 30/31 and 32 radiators are the same dimmension, they pretty much bolt right up to an A no problem...no matter what frame is under it. It's been done thousands of times...including in my garage.
you gotta lower a 32 grill around 1 1/2" to fit a 28/29 hood. The 28/29 radiators were shorter and a little wider.
28-29 cowl and 28-29 grill shell is much shorter than 30-31, so nope. 28-29 wont work with stock 32 shell. got to cut the 32 shell down.
Right, not disputing that. I'm talking about the distance from the firewall to the shell itself. The deuce ch***is has a longer wheel base pushing the two apart. Thus making the stock model a hood and cowls too short.
Thanks guys, my 31 rad. shell is not as nice as I would prefer. I may have not been clear in my question. I was looking to maybe use a brookville shell on this car, it is an original car at the moment. Also does any one know of a good repo 31 rad. shell source? MickeyC
when you remove the gap on the front body mount, you bring down the body about an inch, and the grille she goes down about an inch and a half or so. well on mine thats what happened, i wish i had pics but... no camera, kinda funny that im a coputer programming major, but lack alot of technology.
I had to cut a bit off the bottom of the grille shell where it meets the front fenders on my 31. It matches up to the factory hood just fine. I dropped and modified my headlight bar, using a magazine article for directions.
My buddy ran a Deuce shell on his '31 A roadster (using a '32 radiator) years ago. Everything looked great until he decided to run his stock A hood. In a side view the hood sides had tight gaps at the top of the cowl and the bottom of the grille shell. The gaps were wider at the bottom of the cowl and the top of the grille shell. Evidently the '32 radiator was about 3/8" taller than the A radiator. Just something to look for when you mock it all up...
It can also be relative to if the stock Model A frame is bent which happens alot right where the rear motor mounts are and the cowl bolts down. Seen this quite a few times on completely restored stockers. Have to try to re-arch the frame with everything together to get propper alignment of the hood/grille shell/cowl. They are a direct bolt up fellas who keep finding things to disagree about.-Weeks
Good point, I hadnt thought of a slightly bent frame. Not looking to disagree, just pointing out something that I had seen before!!
i think what he was saying was that since the 1932 has a longer wheel base than the model A and some of that is made up for in the hood you will need a different hood to run an A on a 1932 frame with a 1932 shell.
This guy that I once knew that heard about a friend's car that once had been his brothers uncles.. well, it didn't work on his either, I think...
