hey, new here and im sure this question has been asked a few times before but i did a search and didnt find much. i just picked up a 66 c20 and it needs tires. just some basic blackwalls for the 16.5 wheels would be awesome. i did a search and only found a few. im sure a few of you here might have some other options. im in san fernando valley, california but will mail order if i have to. thanks in advance.

  2. Trash the sixteen-fives and go to the nearest Pull-a-part and get a set of 16s, wheels and all. You'll be money ahead.;)

  3. Trashing them for 16's is good advice although 16.5's are available. Just saw some today matter of fact at Walker Tire Co. in Austin TX. You can do a Google search and find them. I bet Discount Tire has them as well.

    from trevose pa

Thats a shame over the summer I threw some out .I put them at the curb rims and all.

  8. Don't think he was going to pay you to ship them from PA to CA anyhow.

Anyone who carries Firestone has 16.5's, to the point that it makes me wonder if people even try to look for things before posting help threads. I found them and I wasn't looking at all -

  12. call 661-949-0965 ask for Junior

this is Tony's Tires & Wheels in Lancaster, tell them Bill from Havasu told you to call, they will have what you need and the cheapest around. they can go either way with 16.5 tires or change over to 16's (the best way). they can do stock steel wheels or late model stock aluminums from a silverado.
it will be worth the drive (about 35 mins from the Valley)

ok, but don't let the other guys see...;)

IMHO on the tire thing it is a tire store myth that 16.5's are no longer available. they are just not stocked. They also are more available in larger sizes for 4x4 trucks. They also seem to be more available in rural area's. on my O/T 1979 supercab f250 ford truck with 16.5's I was able to score 6 used 16 inch ford factory steel rims and five almost new toyo 235/85/16 tires that someone traded in on some bling wheels for about what it would cost for 3 9.50x16.5. I would check craigslist for some rims.

  15. the manufacturers of trucks went away from the 16.5 in the mid-late 80's.
So, tires are more expensive for them. Chinese tires might be cheaper.

Best to swap over. I probably have a set of them.

You might want to check if your 66 has split rims. The tire joints won't usually touch them. If they do, definitely get newer 16's.

I have a set of 16.5s with what appear to be brand new tires on my 71 3/4 ton suburban. ( I just bought it recently) I just bought a set of 18" wheels for it and I will be getting tires for those wheels in the next week or so. Maybe even the next couple of days. I will sell the 16.5s. PM me if you haven't found some already. Seriously, I would guess they have less than 1,000 miles on them.
