"I'm a happy person," he said. "I have to be. Otherwise I would go nuts."
    Thanks Ryan. Slim

It was sold, moved around, and dismantled. One could say it "no longer exists".

Didn't he campaign a seriously hammered '34 at some point? I seem to remember a photo of it--and another car--in an Andy Southard book. (Could be totally wrong though.)

  10. I had the pleasure of meeting Scotty on my first trip to Bonneville with the 990 Original Goldenrod. He came over to us in the staging lines and introduced himself. Said he remembered when the streamliner first came to the Salt in the early 50's.
    He was quite the gentleman.

I also had the pleasure of meeting him at Colton, first time out with our Ardun C/FD back in '62, and Scotty showed up with his blown Chev T/F car, frame from PBY strut just like the roadster...when he saw our Ardun he came over and asked if we needed any info on it...we were smart enough to say "yes!" since we were a couple of dumb 19 year olds...and he helped us set up the injectors, degreed the mag, etc...wonderful person.

Great Stuff Ryan, thanks for posting!!! I love the footage at the end of the kids wrestling! Don't see that these days...now all the kids do is lock themselves in the house and play video games and text each other.

Thanks Ryan for that story. The white roadester is just bad to the bone, I love the look of the old roadesters, just wish I had one.

I'd put a radiator in that T and drive it to work-just once!!!

Bitchin story. Sounded like a great guy.

Is the footage from Colton? Maybe San Gabriel?

Anyone here got the mad skills to dub in some sound on those runs!?

Paper bag on the head routine musta been childhood footage of the unknown comic!

That car is serious... no other word comes to mind. Could you imagine staging next to that thing?

  17. The Ardun T was gorgeous and fast, I hope Russco clones it.
Scotty always built well constructed Hot Rods. He built possibly the most Beautiful AV-8 ever.[IMG]

Her's a picture of Scotty's Bonneville roadster. It was a coupe for a while and then the top was removed to go after different classes. He was a long time member of our club. He was also an original member of the Hornets car club from the 40's. I met him when I was 19, I'm now 68. I went into his shop to have some work done and didnt quite have enough cash. He said your good for it, pay me when you can. Always a gentleman and a wealth of racing knowledge. A great guy that never had a bad word about anyone.

Scotty's 34 roadster still goes fast. Dave Simard owns it now. Went to Bonneville with a Hilborn injected flattie and did pretty well. The car is really well built.

I met Scotty when I was 17. The next year we built a Chevy-powered fiberglass T for the drags and I started a charge account at his shop. I bought an A roadster from Riverside and we used it as the push car from time to time. Blew up the 283, went to Scotty, got a purchase order for parts from the Chevy dealer, open amount.

"How do you know I just might buy a new Corvette?"

"Dosesn't matter, you're good for it."

And I was. A brand new 327 short block for $320 or so. Paid on it every week. Got down to under $100 and felt I had to buy something new, couldn't let my account dwindle. Threw away the ugly 40 Ford steering wheel for some 3-spoke dandy and adapter.

Still have the Street Roadster. Went 210 with it at SpeedWeek in 2008.

The dragster film is at the Colton strip. It was a very "primitave" facility!

The blower on the Ardun is a McCulloch.

Scotty and Earl Evans were good friends. Scotty was one of the first dealers for Evans speed equipment. Both men were gentlemen of the highest order.

Great story, Ryan, and the "Last Man Standing with a paper sack on his head and a whiffle bat in his hand" could be a great "tie-breaker" for the Mini Bike races at the next LSR!:D:eek::D

The sound was beautiful! As I recall the ends of the exhaust pipes were machined down Ford torque tubes.

Scotty had the Adun in his lakester and told me he set top time with it at an early Santa Ana meet -- over 140, I bellieve. He made it to the final round, but lost because of a smoked clutch pulling the taller lakes gears.
