One of the contestants on Jeopardy tonight said he was excited to be in SoCal because he'd finally get to see the race car his father built which was housed in the Petersen Museum. Alex asked him what it was and he said it was the "Mark 1." Curiosity got the best of me and I can't find any pics of it. Does anyone have anything?

    Thanks.

Seems they have exhibits on both Hollywood and Hotwheels cars, so maybe?

Well, his lips matched the words coming out so I don't think he's a direct descendant of Speed Racer...

Wasn't the Speed Racer car the Mach 5?

Was the guy from Canada? Not Alex, the contestant. I found this on a google search...

In my RSS reader, I have a number of blogs for automotive news, a number of blogs for general automotive interest, and I have several blogs for automotive inspiration. David Black’s Vintage Sports Car Review is one of the latter, and he recently got the gears in my skull turnin’ with the photos he posted of the Sadler Mk. 1, which, according to Harold Pace in “Vintage American Road Racing Cars, 1950-1969,” was the first effort by Canadian Bill Sadler to build his own race car. It apparently used Jowett Jupiter running gear, a ladder frame, a “crude” aluminum body, and a Triumph TR-2 engine fitted with Sadler’s own fuel injection system (later replaced with a small-block Chevrolet V-8).

I think I have a new obsession. Thanks, David. Now, anybody know where it is today?

I wasn't paying attention too much because those stories are usually about some dickhead's cat and how cute it is. Alex said to him something like, "I understand you're pretty excited to be in the area, tell us about that." The contestant then said, "Well, I've been hearing about and seeing snapshots of a race car that my father built a long time ago and now I'll be able to see it in the Petersen Museum." Alex asked what the car was and he said, "Um...it's called the Mark 1," or something like that. The way he stumbled with the "Um" was as though he wasn't sure how much detail Alex was looking for.

I just checked...According to the Jeopardy website his name is Carter Edman from Ohio.

He said it was built in the 1950's with a body of fiberglass which does not equal the GT40:D

The last contestant said she was going to use some of her $$$ from the last show to buy a 1950 chevy pickup.

I was watching too. He said it was built around 1951ish. I wondered the same thing. Funny thing is, I live near him. I should look up his phone number and ask him to be more specific! Heh, heh.

They mystery continues...you guys paid closer attention than I did, or maybe my memory just sucks. That returning champ threw me for a loop when she said she wanted that old pickup. I didn't know which one to route for. Oh well...

Maybe next time you should try boob-shaped cookies?

We used to stop by Bill Sadler's shop in or near St. Catharines, Ontario. I think his Dad ran Sadler Auto Electric. Bill was a very nice person. He would let us wander around the shop. He gave my buddy some valuable Chev racing parts that he was done with. Cams, cranks, etc.

That Bosley GT is a BEAUTIFUL car.

  30. Here's the Bosley GT1 from Denise's Petersen photo albums. I hope the guy isn't too disappointed when he sees its current condition.
