hey does any body have any leads lets say on like a cheap 55 chevy to start a gasser project car. I've been looking around for a while trying to find a afforadible car to start this project with but i havent turned up much im not just stuck to a 55 chevy im willing to use like a 32 if cheap enough or mabey even a nova or something of the sort
try an early nova, or early falcon, henry J, early 40s coupe chevy, dodge etc. a studie lark or early rambler american/// all make good cheap gassers
No such thing as a cheap 55 or 32 anything ( thats a tudor and in worthashit condition ) anymore. Why not take the road less traveled and build a gasser Valiant ,Crosley,Rambler American or ?
You can build a Gasser out of most anything IF it fits a set of class rules. Need to know what class you want to run first?
Basically any car will fit a gas class, the classes were based on pounds/cubic inches. There were rules for wheel base, and depending on what year you want you car to fit in it would have had to been a street legal, including functional lights, wipers, starter, generator, etc. and they had to be currently liscenced for street use. The early gas class cars even had to have full legal exhaust!!! It could be "unhooked" when racing but had to remain on the car!!! As years went by, they started to open up class rules for making the cars fit a certain minimum wheel base, engine set back, body mods, etc. So basically pic a year you want to build for and then you can acurately decide what/how to build your gasser.
Did you find something to build or still looking? Just curious....might know about a 55 that was built in the 60's and raced as late as the eighties that is very possibly becoming available. It is not perfect, nor complete, but one hell of a start to the real deal!!!
'63-'64 Fairlanes are a great look for that, and you can still find a sportsroof very reasonable. Just an opinion, but I think they look better than a tri-5 chevy for this. Not easy with the unibody construction, tho.
But what if it really is/was a rambler gasser? There just might be a real one out there....I'd love to see a real Hurst S/C rambler that someone cut the rear wheel wells out and put a straight axle under!!! COME ON...SOMEONE HAVE ONE OF THESE?? How about photochoping one for my fix!!!?
Thats just it! I DONT WANT TO see a beautiful car like a scrambler get mutilated into a gasser. The following are all IMO. 1. Ramblers look too new. 2. you cant find hotrod parts for old 58-64 Ramblers, trust me, I've looked. 3. Scramblers are too rare, i dont want to see a scrambler get ruined, Sure, Gassers are cool, they're VERY cool, but its just not rambler!
